WASHINGTON (AP) - The White House's top health care official is optimistic that Democrats will have the votes to pass a major health care overhaul.

Presidential adviser Nancy-Ann DeParle says it makes sense to have a "simple up-or-down vote" on legislation, now that Democrats lack the 60 votes necessary to overcome Republican stalling tactics.

The Senate's Democratic leaders are try to devise a strategy for passing the legislation with a simple 51-vote majority. There are 57 Democrats in the Senate and two Democratic leaning independents.

White House OK on health care with or without GOP

Hence why I said what I did.
When the American people voted in Barry, they also mistakenly voted in no abiility to check and balance with a majority Dem-controlled House and Senate. Now that ObamaCae is about to be shoved down our throats because of the lack of chacks and balances, we are now sounding off...and the Dems will pay a heavy price whether they shove this garbage through or not.

Keep it up. Dig the hole as deep as possible. I want the backlash to be overwhelming and vengeful.

I want to see the face of the United States changed for another hundred years.

How about that?

The Democrats have the stones to do the “Nuclear Option” over Health Care while the Republicans lacked the stones to the “Nuclear Option” over Conservative Judges.

The best of all possible worlds. Fails in the house which seems likely and the very attempt at shoving it down our throats causes them to be voted out en masse.
A Bridge Too Far. They should watch it and learn about over reaching.

If they can pull it off, why wait another 6 weeks?
They just want to keep that level of uncertainty in the job market so they can kill another million jobs!

Gee, did it make sense to have a "simple up-or-down vote for Bush's judicial nominees? Does it make sense to destroy historical precedent? Does it make sense to bankrupt the country? Does it make sense that we're talking about a vote that privatizes 1/6th of the market economy? Does it make sense for "representatives" to railroad this through against the clear will of those represented?

I'm starting to wonder if we need to have 60% majority votes just to send ANYBODY to Washington.

I hope they don’t figure out a dang thing and just keep right on going. The only thing that will resolve our situation is a victory. Compromise and the way we are going only prolong the agony and continue the decline.

We need to have a decisive battle that will win the war...at least for awhile until we forget again.

They may have the stones but they did not have the votes in the House before the summit at Blair House, otherwise why have a summit. Based on what happened, Obama coming off as an arrogant, very empty suit, I see no reason to believe they have the votes in the House post summit.

It still baffles me that they could do this. I mean that is why there are checks and balances. I don’t live under a king.

This isn’t difficult for the Dems.. They’ll promise moderate Dems who will likely be voted out in November a job or some other form of kickback. The truth will come out a year from now and if we’re lucky it’ll catch page 17 of Section B in your newspaper.

I honestly think Pelosi will be able to round up enough votes here.

The ‘Rats don’t have the votes. They would have passed it by now. They just wanted the GOP to blink.

Yes, and this is what is putting us in a bind in a way. Since they know they will be voted out, they are doing whatever they want, like a desperado, or a criminal with three strikes already against him in a three-strikes-you’re-out jurisdiction. He can go wild killing as many people as he wants to since he is already dead.

Or let it cool down and give way to other concerns, so they can sneak it through when we’re not expecting it, maybe on April 15 when everyone is distracted.

Stalling tactics? When you are completely locked out of the process and all bills are created behind closed doors, then released a day or two before a vote, what choice is there? As to a "simple up-or-down vote": they always had the unconstitutional option of a "simple up-or-down vote" via reconciliation. The whole point of reconciliation is to supersede any filibuster so, once again, Pelosi and Co. play the citizenry as chumps even when some of the previous chumps have started to wake up.
