Death in Dubai [Singling out one nation for condemnation is a tragedy ]

Da boy in Dubai. Or, more accurately, da dead boy in Dubai.

Da boy is Mahmoud al-Mabhouh, a leading Hamas operative who habitually boasted of killing two Israeli soldiers and was renowned as an arms supplier for various Palestinian groups in Gaza.

He who lives by the Kalashnikov tends to die by the Kalashnikov.

It’s a tragedy that violence still occurs in the world, but it would be equally tragic if we singled out one nation for condemnation.

There is a very good chance that some branch of Israeli intelligence killed the man.

The Mossad is often mentioned, but historically the people who carry out the frontline acts, the “wet jobs” as they’re known in such circles, are agents of the internal security service, what is generally known as Shin Bet but is more properly called Shabak.

Beyond this is the Kidon or Bayonet unit, an inner group within Mossad.

Whatever and whomever, it is predictable but still deplorable that Israel is considered so pernicious when it eliminates its sworn enemies abroad, but the United States, various European countries and certainly numerous Arab regimes escape censure.

Mahmoud al-Mabhouh had dedicated his life to killing Israelis and wiping Israel from the face of the map.

Did we seriously expect the Israeli government to send him flowers and chocolates and a cream-cheese bagel just for luck?

Such was the man’s desire for violence that other Palestinians, including many in Fatah, have turned a blind eye to his death and Jordan, Saudi Arabia and in particular Egypt have said almost nothing.

Dubai has to act because his assassination took place in their country but the Dubai government is incredibly eager to normalize relations with Israel and secretly detests Hamas and all its works.

That Israel may have used foreign passports is hardly shocking to anyone who understands either the region or the fundamentals of espionage.

All security services use foreign passports, and documents from countries such as Canada, New Zealand and Brazil are especially favoured because they are considered fairly neutral.

Sometimes the use is innocuous. When Romanian Jews were being brought to Israel after the fall of Communism, for example, they had to have European passports to leave the country.

New immigrants to Israel are obliged to leave their old passports with Israeli officials for two or three weeks when they enter the Jewish state and some of them from Europe were surprised that when their passports were returned they contained Romanian stamps!

It’s a dangerous, confused world and the Jews discovered long ago that the only people who could be relied upon to protect them were themselves. I’ve yet to meet an Israeli who wants his or her child to wear a uniform or, perhaps, carry out a dangerous foreign mission. But they do want to sleep in their beds knowing they have a future.

Frankly, whatever the country does, it will be criticized by those who seem so opposed to Jewish nationalism. Anti-Zionism is not only fashionable but big business these days.

“We care about what people think of us”, said a good Israeli friend to me when the Dubai story broke, “but we care more about existing.”

I can’t blame him.

Verse after verse after verse in the Old Testament hammers home this point quite well.

The back half of that tome is a different story.

The back half of that tome is a different story.

Christianity is the only religion that uses the back 1/4 of its scriptures to argue AGAINST the front 3/4. Pretty stupid.

If they just dropped a Hellfire missile from a Predator, it would have been fine. We do that every damn day.

Sure. R I G H T. You think you have pearls to offer with such nonsense that negates the balance of Scripture? Your statement belies an ignorance that 1/3 of the New Testament is a direct quote or paraphrase of the Hebrew Scriptures - and Jesus Himself who said in Matt 5:17: "Do not think that I came to abolish the Law and the Prophets."

For your education: "Law and Prophets" is an idiom for what you dismissivly call "the Old Testament" - the front 3/4 of your Bible.

Since they exited Dubai via Iran, how likely, really, is it that they're from Israel?

The Guardian has a vile story today about how the Police Commissioner in Dubai has been a hero to the Arab World.

What strange people the Muslims are, to revere terrorist scum mass murderers.

The REAL world of intel agencies is shocked that the Dubai Keystone Cop is releasing all those photographs.

Dubai has lost whatever credibility it ever had in the West, due to the shennanigans of this "pious" man who visits his mommy every single day before work.
