Three cities named as finalists for 2012 Republican convention

The Republican National Committee named three cities on Friday as potential hosts for the 2012 Republican National Convention: Phoenix, Tampa and Salt Lake City.

The finalists emerged after multiple cities submitted bids to the RNC by the committee's January 15 deadline.

"These cities submitted three very strong bids, so all three are in contention," Holly Hughes, an RNC member from Michigan who chairs the RNC Site Selection Committee, told CNN. "Hosting a convention is a huge deal. A city has to raise multiple millions of dollars, but they also get the benefit of showcasing their city and bringing in revenue."

A 12-member RNC Site Selection Committee will visit the cities in late March and early April to meet with local officials and evaluate the potential sites - and will then make their final recommendation to the RNC. The full 168-member committee will vote to select the host city at the RNC's summer meeting in July.

"Phoenix, Tampa, and Salt Lake City are all amazing American cities and I wish them the best of luck with their bids," RNC chairman Michael Steele said in a statement...

You can see that the McCain and Romney people are tightly in control of the DNC.

cnn is behind. We knew this news a month back.

I recall comments about the weather in Phoenix and Tampa compared to SLC.

FWIW, I hope it’s Tampa.

Utah is the best state to host the convention. Remember, in the 1992 elections Bill Clinton placed third. Only state in the union to make that claim.

They should have it in Tampa. In Phoenix the open-border nutjobs will protest by the thousands and be a serious distraction. In Salt Lake, the Dem-media complex will rant for the whole week that the party of white folk chose the whitest state in the union. I vote Tampa.

Not to mention that Mitt will feel very put out if he isn't chosen.

We went to Tampa for the Outback Bowl—Auburn/NW—and had a wonderful time. If anyone goes there you have to eat at The Columbia Restaurant.

“Utah is the best state to host the convention.”

Screw Utah. Every time I drove through there my turn signals stopped working... That’s got to be important.

I’d go with Tampa because Florida is considered a purple state. Utah and Arizona are, in my opinion, safer for the GOP.
