I’ve never heard of anyone stealing Protestant Communion wafers, but I have seen my priest take off down the aisle mid-distribution to retrieve a consecrated Host from a woman who was stealing it. I can only guess at her purpose.
Salisbury Cathedral (UK, Anglican) has a side altar with the eucharist reserved in a tabernacle. They clearly believe that something other than mere bread is present.
It’s my understanding that some protestant denominations believe the Real Presence is a temporary conditon after the blessing?
While catholics believe that once the bread is blessed the Real Presence remains.
