He Who Holds the Culture Holds the Future
Big Hollywood Breitbart ^ | Feb. 25, 2010 | Steven Crowder - Lone Wolf Diaries

Posted on 02/25/2010 9:38:14 AM PST by AuntB

The era of Reagan is over.

No, I don’t say that in the same way that RINO’s say it in an attempt to move towards the center and line their ....pockets. I say it in that the political landscape today has changed drastically and we need to do more than look to one transcendent figure as the leader of the conservative movement. Future generations will be won on the cultural front, and never through “politics.” Politicians are boring, plus they smell funny.

Say what you want about leftists; ..... but they are incredibly effective with planting cultural seeds. Avatar, plants a seed. Family Guy, plants a seed. SNL plants a seed. All of Comedy Central plants seeds. On the flip side, the sad fact of the matter is that conservatives have planted little to nothing in the cultural landscape.

Listen, you will never win the young masses through politics or a politician. The only way to win them over is through taking an active role in the culture.

One needs look no further than CPAC. The heavy-hitters weren’t the GOP politicians, but people like Glenn Beck, Ann Coulter and Andrew Breitbart. Notice how agitated the mainstream media has become. Lefties are hoping that we’ve given up on Hollywood and mass media as a whole.

Ronald Reagan worked in a generation brought up with traditional principles able to observe conservatism at work. Having also observed liberalism at work first-hand, and through critical thinking they decided to overwhelmingly revert back to conservatism.

The problem is that not only has this generation never seen TRUE conservatism at work, but they’ve been raised in a world of situational ethics. When you’ve been weaned on the teat of subjective morality, logic begins to play a smaller and smaller role as facts become subjective.

...Crowder is spot on...and as a young guy he oughta know...between the school indoctrination, TV and movies the kids have had 21 years of ‘progressive’ brainwashing by the time they cast their first vote.

One thing this overlooks is video games. The most popular ones are not liberal. I don’t know that I’d call them conservative, but they are definitely not liberal.

It is not Reagan the leader we aspire to but the constitutional principles he and his supporters stood for and articulated so skillfully. There is no time limit on Constitutional principles. They endure forever.

“Conservatives mostly don’t go into the Arts.”

This exact words espoused by Roger Ebert. They are true enough as far as thy go, however, the impression they leave is overstated. Because the left has captured control of the field, it is difficult for those with other views to step forward. I know, I'm one.

Neither are the words universally true historically, as many of History’s great artist served the status quo, rather than attack it.

Excellent article. Everything he says is correct.

Conservatives have to create a way to “re-educate” younger Americans in the values that mean something. We need to co-opt the libs in the mainstream media, Hollywood, and most especially - the educational establishments.

So true....dealing with their illogically thinking will make you nuts.....

Perhaps longer. My biggest point though is that we should not cede the territory to one side. Art is not limited to one personality type, and in fact many artists are rather apolitical.

I didn’t say we should cede it. But check out the threads about cinema. A lot of people are proud of the fact that they don’t know anything about it.

Perhaps so, but your post that conservatives generally don't go into the arts struck me otherwise. Forgive me if I misunderstood.

There are writers from the past whose worldview was more conservative. They are carefully excluded from most university literature courses. No Ayn Rand (beat poets instead), no Anthony Trollope (Charles Dickens instead), no Florence King (Flannery O’Connor instead)...

Ayn Rand isn’t regarded as an important literary figure by anyone. Same with Flroence King. Trollope is read he just wrote so much that it’s hard to single something out and he doesn’t have one surpassing classic. And besides to suggest that he’s a greater writer than Dickens is nuts...Dickens should be read more, his position in history is akin to Shakespeare or Joyce.

“There are writers from the past whose worldview was more conservative.”

Indeed. I’d like to send a copy of Ralph Waldo Emerson’s ‘SELF RELIANCE’ to all our congresscritters!

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Since I have been on Free Republic I have been **shouting** the following:

MARXISM IS OUR NATION'S MOST SERIOUS THREAT. GOVERNMENT K-12 SCHOOLS ARE THE MARXIST'S MOST POWERFUL WEAPON AGAINST US!!!

I am amazed that so few conservatives understand that government schools are a daily assault on the Judeo Christian values of our nation. They are producing generation after generation of young people completely unable to recognize and reject the corrosive culture they swim in. That was the plan decades ago.

Have you seen the Yuri Bezmenov YouTube videos? He warned us in the 1980s about communist “demoralization”.

I suggest the following:

Conservatives should set up education foundations that would award grants to conservative teachers. The teachers would open private and tuition-free mini-schools, or one room schools in their homes. The teachers would be certified by the foundation and the foundation would test the students and approve the curriculum.

The foundation would run community wide sports, theater, arts, and music programs for their kids.

The foundations would organize the parents to lobby for the complete shut-down of every government school in this nation.

Can it be done? Yes of course! If Harvard can have a 35 BILLION dollar endowment and colleges and universities across this nation have collective endowments in the 100s of billions ( much donated by conservatives) surely conservatives could endow K-12 education.

Finally...If our college classrooms were full to the brim with students prepared to defend their faith and this nation's founding principles, their Marxist professors would wither before their righteousness!

But...Sadly..conservatives continue to send their children to the Marxist madrassas ( misnamed government “schools”) and absurdly believe that socialist-modeled government schools can be reformed.

Government schools can not be reformed because socialism can not be reformed!

( Not proof read.)

Good idea.

I have another suggestion. Weekend or nighttime “classes” in traditional American History and values for children of conservatives who are exposed to the public school propaganda blitz of misinformation, anti-American rhetoric, anti-Judaeo-Christian garbage and anti-western lies daily in their regular schools.

Arming them with FACTS to refute the LIES their “teachers” present would go a long way to preserving America’s future.
