Is Obama climate change policy in violation of the First Amendment?
American Thinker ^ | February 23, 2010 | John McLaughlin

George Will, in another of his brilliant moments, makes a fascinating point - that the Obama Administration may be violating the First Amendment of the Constitution which prohibits establishment of a religion by the federal government.

In a posting on Townhall.com , Will describes how the entire global warming hoax is collapsing -- both at the federal and state level. Then he cites how Todd Stern, Obama's AGW czar attempts to counter the situation.

Last week, Todd Stern, America's Special Envoy for Climate Change -- yes, there is one; and people wonder where to begin cutting government -- warned that those interested in "undermining action on climate change" will seize on "whatever tidbit they can find." Tid-bits like specious science, and the absence of warming?

It is tempting to say, only half in jest, that Stern's portfolio violates the First Amendment, which forbids government from undertaking the establishment of religion. A religion is what the faith in catastrophic man-made global warming has become. It is now a tissue of assertions impervious to evidence, assertions which everything, including a historic bliz-zard, supposedly confirms and nothing, not even the absence of warming, can falsify.

There can be little doubt that man-made global warming activists exhibit all of the characteristics of those promoting a religion. The late Michael Crichton laid it all out in a 2003 speech to the Com-monwealth Club in San Francisco:

Today, one of the most powerful religions in the Western World is environmentalism. En-vironmentalism seems to be the religion of choice for urban atheists. Why do I say it's a re-ligion? Well, just look at the beliefs. If you look carefully, you see that environmentalism is in fact a perfect 21st century remapping of traditional Judeo-Christian beliefs and myths.

There's an initial Eden, a paradise, a state of grace and unity with nature, there's a fall from grace into a state of pollution as a result of eating from the tree of knowledge, and as a re-sult of our actions there is a judgment day coming for us all. We are all energy sinners, doomed to die, unless we seek salvation, which is now called sustainability. Sustainability is salvation in the church of the environment.

Clearly, such a belief system finds its latest incarnation in the manmade global warming hoax. Politicians and "urban atheists" originally justified their call for massive worldwide wealth redistribution as necessary to obtain salvation from what "scientists" had told them was a coming calamitous judgment day.

Now, even with the notion of such "settled science" thoroughly discredited, President Obama and the high priests and priestesses of his Environmental Protection Agency continue the federal government's effort to establish climate change control based only on faith impervious to logic or reason.

All together now -- join hands and, no matter what happens or how cold it gets, chant with the high priests and priestesses: "Warming is real, and it's caused by human actions." If that's not establishing a religion -- what is it?

No, it is a violation of truth and real scientific principle.

If we're lucky the Obama administration will go down in history as the administration that abused and violated the Constitution...if we're unlucky there won't be anyone around who remembers what the Constitution was.

Scientific Method:

So, I would say we are at about the THINK! TRY AGAIN stage. Or maybe just the ASK QUESTION stage.

What has happened is that the question was never asked. It was assumed that man was causing the warming, which has been going on for a LONG, LONG time and then was hijacked at the Do Background Research stage.

I have to say he has a point here, the cult of global warming is clearly a religious believe, that the FEDERAL government is attempting to unconstitutionally establish.

Ah yes Judgement Day a 1999 movie about an astroid wiping out earth. Replace astroid with AGW and Richard Secor with Al Gore and you got a pretty good idea of art imitating life imitating art.

Synopsis: Deep in space, a meteor collides with a giant asteroid. If fragments from the crash strike earth all life will be eliminated. The government hires Dr. Richard Secor (David Wells)--developer of the THOR anti-meteor device--to stop the impending storm of flaming stone. Everything would be fine, if only Dr. Secor were not in the hands of Thomas Payne (Mario Van Peebles). Payne is a deranged religious cult-leader convinced that the asteroid celestial collision is God's will. With the doctor held hostage by a mad man, the government has no choice but to release a convict named Reese (Ice-T), the zealot's arch-nemesis. Will Reese thwart Payne, release Secor, and redeem himself in time to save the earth? Action-thriller alternative to ARMAGEDDON and DEEP IMPACT.

Don’t forget the Last Supper sacrament of separating your garbage and offering it to the recycle gods.

They’re so far gone, not only do they believe in global warming—they believe cold is warm.

First amendment, Art. II Section 2, eligibility clause, and probably the second amendment too, when the time is right, Obama and his minions aren't real observant of the rules of the "defective" Constituion.

Liberals have invaded hard science.

That happened long ago. Even before WW-II, but it really accelerated after that. An amazing fraction of those who worked on the Manhattan Project, (which was engineering, not science per se), were flaming liberals. Some where outright communists.

Just goes to prove the fallacy of assuming expertise in one area confers special wisdom in others.
