LA Times: Only 15% of Americans think Obama's Washington is working
LA Times ^ | February 22, 2010 | Andrew Malcolm

Only 13 months and two days after Democrats lead by Barack Obama rode up Pennsylvania Avenue with .... overwhelming legislative majorities and a perceived mandate for big changes, not to mention an approval rating above 70%, an overwhelming majority of voters are now united in believing that place isn't working. Certainly not to the public's advantage anyway.

A similar 75% of likely voters are now angry at current government policies. That's up 9 points since September and four points since November when angry voters dumped Democrats out of the New Jersey and Virginia governors' offices, despite Obama's campaigning there.

A number of savvy Republicans in Washington see this as at least part of the strategy behind Obama's allegedly bipartisan healthcare summit this Thursday. Since the public is already pretty angry at controlling Democrats with Nancy Pelosi's favorables right down there with Darth Vader and Harry Reid trailing anybody in Nevada, why not draw the GOP closer to the campfire in a suddenly rediscovered desire for legislative transparency?

The Republicans should not show up, unless Obama starts on page one. No page one, no summit. PERIOD

And I think that’s a damn good thing.

Imagine if the 0’s “Washington” was working.

We’d be in a lot deeper crap than we are right now.

Count me as one of those %15. I think D.C. is working to increase its power and robbing and destroying productive Americans. Isn’t that what government does?

since 0bama likes to bring up president Bush... how about looking waaay back to feb 2002, after 13 months in office, and see how his approval ratings were doing

i’d guess they don’t want to do that...

It’s amazing to watch such a dysfunctional band of do nothings who have such power and their ineptitude.

I have nothing but contempt for them and those who voted for them.

Wait, that was redundant. I guess I feel pretty strongly about their ineptitude. ;^)

If the GOP was smart and had discipline they would show up, let Obama give his little my way or the highway speech, and then, in a very public way, walk out. As the pass the cameras on the way out explain that they simply cannot work with the current Pelosi-Reid regime and that if any progress is to be made it will have to be after the people have had their say on the matter in November.

Unfortunately the GOP lacks either discipline or intelligence so they will probably just sell us out in exchange for the liberal media not calling them baby killers for 24 hours.

Saw a poll result this morning on FNC that said 47% think Congress should just start over on health care, and 23% said do nothing. Overwhelmingly, no one wants either the current Senate or House bills. How much clearer does this have to be made before Republican reps realize it's a winning issue for them?

Was watching CNN this morning. Their latest propaganda move it to continue the supposed Bayh theme that “Washington is broken”. No criticism of Obama, only an indirect indictment of republicans. They are, however, distilling down the argument to: one side won’t raise taxes, and one side won’t cut spending, implying that the compromise is cutting a little and taxing a little. Republicans can make an excellent argument that taxes are already too high. Even the most politically ignorant are aware that virtually every state in the union is raising taxes to meet their budgets. More taxes a la Mondale aint gonna fly this time around.
