I can't imagine that Prime Minister Harper is the kind of a--hole that this Morrissey makes him out to be but, in this age of 0bama, who knows ...

They’re still the “Eh-Lympics”.

a country whose top two character traits seem to be politeness and reservedness.

This clown needs to go to Edmonton and watch an Oilers-Flames game.

Jesus...if the Canadians want to beat their drum, let them for God’s sake, I say.

Of course, if the Olympics were in Iran, I would feel differently.

Am I the only one on this planet who hasn’t watched the Olympics? Nothing against the athletes, but all this hoopla bores me to tears.

Lives there a man with soul so dead...

Good for you mates...
Canada is a great country.

Just as a little patriotism goes a long way, perhaps more so does political correctness.

Enjoy your day in the sun!

I don’t think Canada has quite the inferiority complex this reporter was assigned from the “evergreen” list. Molson’s “I am Joe, and I am a Canadian!” was a sensation a couple of years ago.

French Canadians complained that their role in the Opening Ceremony was too small.

Leave it to the French to piss & moan. I watched the Olympic Opening Ceremony and the intros were all in French. The French in Canada make up less than one third of the population, most of them concentrated in the Province of Quebec, some in very eastern Ontario and in parts of New Brunswick. The Canadian government & the Canadian Olympic committee bent over backwards to accommodate the French & per usual all they get is more whining. Next, still another Quebec referendum vote threatening to cede from Canada.

“The fence around the cauldron was taken down”

Shows you how in touch he is - the fence was not taken down, just moved closer and modified so people could get better pics.

“And there’s nothing wrong with a little bit of national pride.”

Canadians have always been patriotic and shown more than “a little bit” of national pride.

The only difference is now they are admitting it (sort of).

Hey, and why not? With deficit spending somewhat under control, a banking system that is generally solvent, and natural resources that everyone in the world wants - things are looking up for Canadians.

They still delude themselves on their health care system - and will even continue to insist it’s a great system - all the way to an early grave - but it does have widespread support from the vast majority of citizens - and is one more thing that they crow about patriotically.

It took the butt-stupidity of Obama to fool and then humble America, but after we send him to the political dung-heap in a few years, Canadians will then return to their former boast: “Hey, at least we can put our flag on our backpacks when we travel, eh” as the real test of what it means to be Canadian.

Or the way the Vancouver crowd cheered that cheap shot artist Todd Bertuzzi hit on Steve Moore and the way they handled that in their court system.

Do you think he might have been referring to Americans? Me, too.

Mr. Morrissey can't seem to get past that reflexive reference to the United States, even in a piece glorifiying a new-found sense of Canadian national pride and patriotism.

Me, too indeed.

Morrissey from The Smiths? That whining ass punk? Please. He has thugs for hire at his show beating up his own fans if they get too close to him.

Perhaps you should put a little ice on that.

There was NOTHING untoward or out of place in what PM Harper said. He could have been referring to any number of nations, or even regional rivalries for heaven’s sake!

That YOU have an issue or hyper-sensitivity to an imaginary slight says a whole lot more about you than it does about a speech in a provincial legislature (the same as a state house, for those in Rio Linda) to a group of Canadian politicians.

Sheesh.

And over the centuries, things have been done around the world in the name of national pride or love of country that would have been better left undone.

I'm sure Harper didn't want to hurt the North Korean people by naming them. ;-)

Interesting Morrissey is so self-absorbed and historically illiterate that he imagined Harper’s comments directed at the US. And that from CHICAGO .. just imagine if they had gotten the ‘16 Summer Olympics. Nationalism and Cityism all wrapped up in one arrogant piece.

I think it’s great the Canadians are enjoying a new-found national pride. They have let the loudmouthed left in their country frame who Canadians are for too long now. Just like we are doing.

“Do you think he might have been referring to Americans? Me, too.”

Not me.

Let’s see, what example comes to mind when one thinks of abusing nationalism? To be abusive that nationalism would have to stand for something that might harm others. How about that fellow Adolf with his Third Reich and all those swastika emblazoned flags? That might be a good example, Mr. Morrissey. Somehow, stars, stripes, mom and apple pie just don’t measure up!

I don't...I think he's referring to the Soviets and East Germans who would drug up their athletes to win in the name of nationalism....

We don't always sing along to the anthem

Why not? Is patriotism only cool when everyone else is doing it?
