“good” ideas + Democrats = mandates.
That is why I think hard assets look good. But the truth is people don’t know what to do.
The only thing that is certain anymore is that they all have designs on your lifetime of hard work.
I heard that the Democrats were planning on doing that around the time obama took power. It is not a new idea, they were preoccupied with obama care.
Where can we comment on this proposed program by Treasury and Labor?
I can not find anything on the Treasury Dept. site. Or is this to be only during a public meeting at the Treasury Dept. itself?
I would like to know how “real” this proposal is before making any comments on this proposal.
I could see this proposal making the Health Care fiasco look like a small side show.
If there isn’t a last straw before they get to this, this will certainly be it.
Here’s a PDF file with the pertinent info:

And here’s a helpful tip:
For readers who feel compelled to respond to this increasignly socialistic and ludicrous development, we suggest you voice your anger at the following address:

They are looking for a trigger....and to leave one broke and starving...........and armed.
Seditious SOB’s better be careful what they hope for.
Newt is probably wishing he was still in congress so he can have a hand in “helping” the people spend their money in ways that he see’s fit.
You see, when ever I inform some of my marxist coworkers down in Mass, they instinctively say “it will never happen” and then comment that “this is some rightwing propaganda story”.
I'm sure everyone here at FR knows that conservatives need facts and common sense to support their points, marxist/liberals just think they only need feelings to justify their “positions”.
It is going to be over soon if they even think this war on the middle class continues. This is a middle class issue. the wealthy do not have these instruments. a country full of poor people is easier to govern.
"They came looking for more handouts.
In 2002, a surprise devaluation and immediate conversion of dollar accounts to peso accounts virtually wiped out 75% of the savings of millions of Argentines.
Then last year, the govt literally confiscated the equivalent of millions of people's 401K private retirement accounts, and gave them to the govt.
So it's not just a case of malcontents wanting "handouts." They want their money, which was literally stolen by the Kirchner govt. "
Sound familiar?
Newt is positioning to run for President of the United States in the Republican party and I think he will be very successful because the field is such a void.
Yeah ,right. Keep telling yourself that. Newt is a turd.He might become the R nominee if you can pick him up from the clean end.
So you did. It’s definitely time to throw the bums out - but will liberal Madistan and “Progressive” Wisconsin agree?
No, but I think little York will stand its ground :p
The government will never outright take your 401(k) funds. They will use the gradual approach instead.
First, they will deny tax deferral for any "new" contributions unless they are used to purchase special government back securities. You will have a choice, do not contribute or buy the government program. Because many employers match contributions - a lot of people will buy into the government program.
Next, they will put a time line the tax deference on funds already in the accounts. So, each year 10% of what you have in your fund will become taxable income unless you convert. Again, most people will try to avoid the tax and convert to the government security.
In ten years nearly all of the 401(k) money will be in the governments hands
