The big white guy has been identified as Thomas Bruso, the same big white guy who was videotaped getting into a fight with about four Oakland cops at an A’s game about two years ago, which might have been posted here on FR. I know I saw it somewhere.

I agree. Unpopular opinion, but my first thought watching the video, and before any physical altercation began, was that the bearded guy was mentally ill. At the start of the video, the first interaction between the two is the old guy asking the black kid "How much do you charge to spit shine my shoes?" Who in their right mind would ask a total stranger on a bus, let alone a black man, that question? Sure, the black guy threw the first blow, and he's not entitled to do that on the basis of a verbal taunt, but he certainly was deliberately provoked.
