"That's happening a lot with Republicans sort of taking credit for things that Democratic bills do and then Republicans simultaneously touting their votes against them and trashing them," Maddow said. "That, I think, is a problem that needs to be resolved within your caucus. Because you seem like a very nice person but that is a very hypocritical stance to take."
Schock argued it would be foolish to deny his district funds that would be appropriated anyway. And responding to Maddow's charge of hypocrisy, he asked the MSNBC host if she had returned to the IRS all the tax cuts she got under the Bush administration.

He was prepared to treat this as a hostile interview; all Republicans should take note.
Didn’t watch the video, but if he did indeed brag about the stimulus money his district received, I do find that a bit hypocritical.
If they are going to have someone like Maddow on MTP they ought to have Ann Coulter or Laura Ingraham on there. Or is it just more cross promotion by NBC?
The socialists love the word “hypocritical”, but I don’t think it means what they want it to mean [the same is true for “unexpected” and “surprising” for bad economic news under their messiah]. It’s not hypocritical to disapprove of wasting tax dollars but want your constituents to get a share of that waste if they are getting stuck with a share of the debt.
I watched him on MTP, and he did great! Besides Maddow, the other panelists included Harold Ford and David Brooks. He held his own with Maddow and Harold Ford. When he and Ford were arguing, Brooks had to jump in and comment about the “partisanship” they exhibited as an example of what’s wrong with Washington these days. Brooks sounded like an idiot. Hey, I want Rep. congressmen to exhibit some partisanship with the current dem’s and their agenda.
I didn’t realize he was the youngest member of Congress. Maybe some other pol’s should take notice of his abilities.
If $$$ is being handed out by the Feds and you have tax payers in your district then you should get back what you can.
This is the inherent flaw in the system. Self-interest is what guides the process both from the view point of the voter and their elected reps. People complain that Ben Nelson whored his vote out but in reality, he did what he was supposed to do for his state. He works for Nebraska and as such should be getting what he can for them.
In many ways, Brother Maddow is more annoying than their angrier hosts like Schuzltz and Olbermann. At least with them, they match their bile with unhinged, mouth-foaming rants. Maddow does this more subtle, holier-than-thou BS “nice” act that’s just as insulting and accusatory to her targets, but has a veneer of moderation.
Maddow on MTP? It was watchable when Russert was the host. But with her on a panel?
Yeah. "I will take every dollar of that spending bill I am completely opposed to that I can get my hands on." True statesmanship. And that crack about the Bush tax bill was a ridiculous response. There was an article in the local paper yesterday about the Republican members of the Missouri legislature criticizing McCaskill about stimulus spending and at the same time planning the next two budgets assuming that the spending will continue.
Either we're against the stimulus boondoggle or we're for it. If we're against it, then we can't have our hand out for all the pork we can gather up while condemning that spending at the same time.
Harold Ford Jr. may be one of the dumbest people ever to be on a major Sunday talk show.

For me - I was more concerned that Nelson was bought showing his true colors and going counter to EVERYTHING he told us he stood for..just for his party..He got the deal just to buy US off.....he thought we would be so happy that we would forget about that little thing called voting against your states wishes...
I think the process is massively corrupt and it has gone way out of control in lock step with the expansion of government spending.
Agreed on the stimulus spending, but his reply on the Bush tax cuts was appropriate, certainly no less valid than Maddow’s criticism.
Its like Warren Buffett agitating for years about his paying a lower percentage of his income in taxes than his secretary. (Hardly the whole story, but anyways.). Anyone who wants to plead for higher taxes can put their damn money where their mouth is. Write your IRS check for more, no one’s stopping them.
Robert Gibbs started this be re-write of history a few weeks ago, and I've heard it repeated frequently on these panel shows where at the same time the "conservative" guest (like David Brooks) have let it go unchallenged. In Schock's defense, all this happened before he entered Congress, so he may not be up to speed on all the details.
When the stimului/omnibus question came up he should have responded “I’m not going to apologize for going out and meeting my voters where they are”
Well, the fact of the matter is that eventually additional taxes will be taken from his constituents. He voted against it. But, he has an obligation to fight as hard as he can to make sure those monies are kept in the district that they're generated. Otherwise, the imperial federal gubmit is just going to be reaching their hands into the pockets of the people in his district, and redistributing it to the deadbeats in Chicago, New York and LA.
I saw the show, Schock and David Brooks of the NYT (yes, David Brooks) absolutely crushed Maddow and Harold Ford, Jr with their command of the issues and facts. I especially liked it when Schock mocked the fact that Maddow would not give back her share of the Bush tax cuts to the government.
We have to remember that stimulus money is OUR MONEY FROM ALL OVER THE COUNTRY, the federal government has no right whatsoever to use it as a reward. We have got to quit thinking that the government is doing us a favor, IT IS OUR MONEY!!!!
