Tea Party Candidate May Ensure A Harry Reid Win

This is just beyond asinine. (h/t doubleplusundead)

Sun columnist Jon Ralston is reporting that the Tea Party has qualified as a third party in Nevada and will have a candidate in the Senate race to battle for the seat held by Majority Leader Harry Reid.

The party has filed a Certificate of Existence but needs to get 1 percent of the electorate to vote for its candidate in November to permanently qualify, according to the report.

Ralston reported that Jon Ashjian will be the Tea Party's U.S. Senate candidate on the November ballot. Ashjian still must declare his candidacy.

Awesome.....this goes a long way towards ensuring Harry Reid stays the Senator of that State.

I don’t think Reid can win even with a 3rd candidate running.

A designated Tea Party as a splintered, sovereign, political entity (conservative schism) is the Democrats’ dream.

I expect this to happen across the country. It will ensure the Democrats continued control of the House and Senate. Never, ever, underestimate the stupidity of the American voter...

Vote for people you agree with. I love Tea Party candidates if the republican is a RINO. Go Tea Party!!!

I thought there was no ‘Tea Party’, rather many Tea Parties. This smells like a rat plot, you know, divide and conquer. Expect the same thing elsewhere.

There is a Tea Party movement, no one can claim a right to the name. The main Tea Party organizers in Nevada need to get together, hold a convention, and then agree to support the candidate of the GOP candidate. Both of them are conservative enough.

You Nevada Tea Partiers need to keep us informed on this.

A Tea Party candidate can put fear in the anointed Republican Candidate - even a minor one like in this case...

When pressured by common sense Tea Party folks - the chosen Republican candidate will drift to the right - forced to rethink his/her positions on issues.

Keep up the good work Tea Party folks...

Any indication of just how big the Tea Party movement is in Nevada? This sounds fairly reckless, but the movement might not involve that many who’d actually vote third party, or it might not be that big.

There is this thing called srategy. If a Tea Party candidate enters the election it splits the conservative vote. The D’s will not do anything to split their vote. That is why they win in these types of elections.

Vote for whomever you want but if you want to get rid of that ferret faced traitor it would be best to try the Tea Party candidate elsewhere.

Well that isn’ true. Al Gore would testify to how third parties worked against him in 2000. LOL

Anyway, other then people wishing to be outraged for the sake of outrage I see no cause to shout alarm.

Can someone point to the Tea Parties rallying for this in Nevada? I doubt it. Most seem content with their choices in the primary. Someone wanting to use the label to stand out doesn’t mean they have any constituency themselves.

*Everybody*, and I mean *everybody* that talked about this issue at the National Tea Party Convention was emphatic about not wanting to have a 3rd party, but rather wanting to properly influence the existing ones, primarily the Republican. I’m talking individuals in casual conversation and speakers I heard who addressed the issue.

A 3rd party is a disaster.
