Poll: Joseph Malone could top William Delahunt [Massachusetts District 10]
Boston Herald ^ | 02/13/10 | Hillary Chabot

A poll commissioned by likely GOP congressional challenger Joseph D. Malone shows he’s neck and neck with U.S. Rep. William Delahunt as Scott Brown fever continues to grip Bay State voters.

Malone of Scituate commissioned the poll that has him with 37 percent of the vote to the Democratic incumbent’s 34 percent with a 5.7 percent margin of error.

“I’m very encouraged by it,” Malone said. “My sense is that the voters of the district are people who recognize Delahunt has been following (House Speaker) Nancy Pelosi’s policies and are sick of it.”

The former state treasurer’s lead widened to 16 points among 10th Congressional District voters who have already made up their minds in the 2010 election. Conservative consultants McLaughlin & Associates conducted the poll of 300 likely voters between Jan 30 and 31.

National Republican Congressional Campaign spokesman Tory Mazzola said many conservatives feel Delahunt (D-Quincy) is weak after watching Brown nab 61 percent of the vote in the six-term incumbent’s district in his winning U.S. Senate bid last month.

“I’m not surprised people are looking for a new and fresh voice,” said Rep. Jeffrey D. Perry (R-Sandwich), who is running against Delahunt. “It was one of my biggest considerations when I got into the race.”

Delahunt did not return calls for comment on the poll.

His failure to prosecute Amy Bishop when he was district attorney just might be the nail in Delahunt's coffin.

Jeff Perry is the guy we want here. Joe Malone is yesterday’s news and carries a lot of baggage from his days at the Lottery.

Is this guy Malone a good guy?

Fiscally OK. Socially liberal. Biggest problem is that when he was treasurer one of his underlings was stealing from the state left and right.

Malone is a good guy. But he’s got baggage from his years at the treasury.

“Joe Malone is yesterday’s news and carries a lot of baggage from his days at the Lottery.”

Baggage that will be today’s news...and unsuperable. He’s dead in the water. And not so smart.

New blood! “Whomever” beats Delahunt. Joe can’t...nor would I like him to try. He’ll bring the chances of a new political turn in the state crashing down.

I’ll bet the Dems will be him largest campaign contributor.

No fan of Delahunt, but I haven’t seen evidence that he suppressed the investigation or quashed the prosecution. Unless there is, it’s a bad thing to focus on, because he can easily defend himself against the charge that he didn’t prosecute Amy Bishop.

Supposedly Delahunt decided that no charges should be filed in what sounds like a murder, not an accident.

U.S. Rep. William Delahunt...... this guy might as well throw in the towel. In a more just world he would also be prosecuted as accessory to murders

The killer’s mother worked for the city of Braintree. My guess is this is an entrenched hack family meaning lots of relatives feeding at the trough. As such they had the juice to reach out to another hack, the DA William Delehunt, and get all charges flushed

True, but maybe there was no evidence.

If you get information that the investigative cops wanted a prosecution and Delahunt refused or that Amy Bishop was well-connected, it might be something, but otherwise prosecutors just get cases with no evidence.

True, but maybe there was no evidence.

I read the police report. They decided not to interview anyone beyond the initial inquiry on grounds that everyone was too emotional.

They accepted her mother's version that it was an accident.

If I accidentally shot someone, my instinct would be to call for help. She fled the scene.

I cant imagine police handling the situation this way if the principals were Joe Schmoes.

I’m getting this too from reading about the case. Basically, if you can prove that there’s a comfortable relationship between Delahunt and the family, that should be enough.
