He will do building inspections I have been told.
I wonder who slipped him a wad of cash under the table?
I would doubt any abuse ever happened to them. Haiti would have taken every precaution to prevent this from happening imo.
bttt
Donations must have dropped off “unexpectedly”
Surprised at how many Americans were duped by the MSM and wanted to see them rot in a Haitian Jail
I know that this baptist refused to give a penny for relief while they were held. It really has left a very bad taste in my mouth so I probably won’t give anything to Haiti. Until there is real oversight and reform none of the money will go to the people or to the rebuilding the infrastructure.
They should keep Silsby. She had criminal intent with her fraudulent fund-raising for this project (using the proceeds to support herself, and per some reports to pay off some of her more pressing back wage judgements, claiming the donations were tax-deductible when she knew full well they weren’t, etc), and knew full well she was breaking Haitian law because she’d been told by a large number of officials and aid workers. Coulter probably knew the whole thing wasn’t really legit, but she’s young and clearly wasn’t the mastermind. The others are really, really stupid, but I think they’ve had enough time sitting in a third world jail to realize that, and I don’t see much to be gained by keeping them there any longer. The Haitian government has much better uses for food and shelter than feeding and housing these idiots. But Silsby should stay, and be set to hard labor to earn her keep.
do you need a hanky dear?
“This is about mustering what dignity they can. It may be a bit sad and pathetic, but at least they have a poit of view that should be understood.”
I agree, I have no doubt they’re being treated well but Haiti has to make a serious point here, not to the US but to their own people that the government is still functioning and will defend it’s citizens.
And also to make the point that it will not prioritize the comfort of random foreign lawbreakers over that of innocent Haitians, many of whom are in such dire straits right now that they’d gladly trade places with the prisoners in order to have a roof over their heads and enough food and water to survive on. The whining on FR about the conditions in which these prisoners are being held is obscene. They committed a very serious crime, at least one of them knew that, and most of the others (I’ll cut the teenagers a break because they were trusting their parents) *should* have known that. Why should they enjoy more comfort and safety than the average Haitian whose home was turned to rubble by the earthquake?
I’m inclined to agree, but time will tell if bribes were involved.
I was hoping the US government would bribe them to *keep* Silsby.
I can see how you came by the second syllable of your screen name.
This was nothing more than an attempted shakedown. The so-called authorities were fine with releasing those kids as long as they got paid $300 per head. When the missionaries could not or would not pay, suddenly the kids became kidnapping victims and the missionaries were arrested and jailed into a system that had just released 5,000 violent criminals that the “authorities” couldn’t care for. The only kidnapping victims were the missionaries.
We should pull all government resources out of that cesspool and let them survive on private donations or their own wits, which are just about non-existent.
Yeah, reading through the thread I notice that the posters condemning the missionaries as kidnappers and evil mercenaries are MIA. They seem to have retreated behind the crickets.
Cowards.
The only point of view they have is how much money can I shake these “rich” white people down for?
WHAT point? All they wanted was money. In true despot tradition, the didn’t care one iota about these kids. They were willing to sell them for $300 each, no kidnapping or any other legal issue. When they didn’t get it, they improvised and used their authority to arrest these people as revenge for not paying.

Agreed - will you please ping me when and if we hear that these Americans have actually made it OUT of Haiti and are home safe and sound???
Thanks.
Where did you get that info? I haven't seen it on any of the many, many articles I've read about this case. Link, please.
And they didn't release the 5000 violent criminals -- the prison collapsed, and the criminals escaped. With thousands of innocent people clinging to life while still buried under heavy rubble, trying to round up the criminals was understandably not a priority. If any of them had been dumb enough to present themselves to a government official while clearly in the process of committing a crime -- as this crazy group of "missionaries" did -- I expect they'd have been arrested too.
