Foothill areas north of Los Angeles are under a flash flood watch as another winter storm approaches, threatening burn areas with more mudslides and prompting mandatory evacuations for hundreds of homes.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected to drop between 1/3 of an inch to 2 inches of rain starting Tuesday afternoon through Tuesday night, said forecasters with the National Weather Service in Oxnard. Though the storm will be patchy and "showery," forecasters said it could dump more than a half-inch of rain an hour in some areas.

Los Angeles County authorities issued mandatory evacuation orders Monday night for more than 500 residences in mudslide-prone areas in La Cañada Flintridge, La Crescenta and Acton. Sheriff's deputies are ordering residents to leave their homes by 10 a.m. Tuesday.

“Sheriff’s deputies are ordering residents to leave their homes by 10 a.m. Tuesday.”

Communism. They should be given all the available information, & make up their own free mind.

It’s raining pretty hard. We had hail a little while ago.
The dash to the Jacuzzi is going to be somewhat uncomfortable.

You have to move your car off the street if you live in the foothill area or the LAPD says that they will tow it away...

You know what they say are the four seasons in California:
Fire, flood, earthquake and riot.

Well the first thing you know there's a storm up in the air
Kinfolk said "Jed move away from there"
Said "Californy is no place you ought to be
When The hills turn to mud and your house slides to the sea"

51 years in Los Angeles and I was never scared once during any storm. Within 2 months of moving to Dallas Texas, I witnessed Lightning, Thunder, Wind, and Rain like never before and 2 tornado warnings later, We were scared for our lives.....You can’t even go outside during some of the lightning here.....No way........

The funny thing.....we liked it! .....

We are all doomed - East coast is all snowed in while the West coast gets rained out. What is next, a huge drought in middle?

We had tapioca-sized hail this afternoon in Anza. Enough to cover the ground and make it white. Melted off pretty quickly, though. Rained ever since.

No offense to LA area FReepers but why is this news? Isn't the weather there either Drought and Brush Fires, or Rain and Mudslides?

an aside: Back in the 80's a Mech Engineer from LA had to fly in to Chi for a Construction meeting. He called home a couple times during the meeting to see if his house survived some Mudslide or Brush Fire. He apologized to us for the delays he was causing and said this was typical CA 'weather'.

(I didn't care about the delays, we were in the 40 something floor of Sears Tower and I just looked out the window at the cool view)
