He was a “Combiner?” I have no idea what that means beyond slang for the state GOP machine. It is that ideal, or a source for fresh thinking and new blood? No. But unless you have a SPECIFIC CHARGE of corruption for the guy, he doesn’t deserve to be called a “crook,” either.
Jeffords and Chafee routinely kept ACU ratings in the 30s, and were constantly on a knife’s edge of party-jumping. I’m aware of no such story on Kirk, who again, has an ACU rating of 56. Almost identical, by the way, to John Porter’s 61, who he served as his Chief of Staff and succeeded in 2000. His voting record is not a shock or a scandal, it simply fits the district. And it’s irrelevant whether his is the “most liberal,” something I didn’t claim. What’s relevant is that it’s LIBERAL ENOUGH for that to be a factor.
I cannot help what the media does or does not “warn” Democrats in red districts about. (Melissa Bean’s is red no longer, incidentally; Obama took it with 56%) Bean gets no such warnings because she votes the way the media WANTS her to. I know the double standard must shock you. But it is no secret that Nancy Pelosi is extra tolerant of letting her rural and red state Rats vote as they must on key issues, except on her Captain Ahab-like ideological crusades such as health care. SHE KNOWS the wisdom of cutting members in difficult districts some slack, even if you guys can’t grasp it.
Even so, reps who don’t vote the preferences of their district, yet survive anyway by talking the game back home and having strong personalities, are hardly impossible to find. I’m from Georgia, and I simply cannot be schooled on the idea that it’s impossible for cads with crummy voting records to be repeatedly re-elected by sounding like a good ol’ boy back home. I saw it done for too many years.
Hey!
Maybe Dick can bring a “Copenhagen Trophey” to Illinois?
Why should I smart ass, I've already gotten answers from people whi know.
And therein lays the problem right there. You don't know what it means, even after reading that in the prior post. It is not the state GOP. It is an unholy and corrupt alliance between both parties to keep out good government reformists. Ask people in IL, Conservatives, what that means.
"It is that ideal, or a source for fresh thinking and new blood? No. But unless you have a SPECIFIC CHARGE of corruption for the guy, he doesnt deserve to be called a crook, either."
If you are a member of the Combine, you are already a crook. Both Alexi and Kirk (and Zero) are from the SAME organization. To claim there is a "competition" between these two is a joke. It's corruption and business as usual in IL.
Oh, I see. “Combiner” is just a state-specific term for yet another accusation of “not a dime’s worth of difference.” I shouldve seen that one coming.
So by your own admission, Combiner is just some abstraction where you lump both party establishments together and declare them all “crooks,” and you don’t need no steenkin evidence for the guilt of anyone you want to target. I’m supposing then, you’ll favor primary challenges for every currently serving IL House GOP’er. How about Don Manzullo, he’s been in office for years? Something tells me 95% ACU ratings won’t draw much opposition from you, “Combiner” or not.
Wow. You REALLY don’t get it. I suggest you go do some serious research, son, because you’re well out of your depth here. I’m not wasting my time teaching a Kindergartener on the subject of IL politics who is only here to shill on the line “Any Republican is better than any Democrat.”
Most of us here on FR, n00b, are Conservatives, and that means something. It means not mindlessly following the GOP, especially when it does wrong. The fact that you cannot comprehend, or refuse to, what the word “collusion” means, also demonstrates that you are either simply ignorant, or are pure troll.
We’ve been discussing this race, and IL politics, for years before you arrived here, and know a helluva lot more about it than you do. I’ve been exceptionally patient in trying to get you caught up and informed, but you insist on ignoring the facts and you have apparently no problem foisting onto the Senate a man from the same unholy alliance that ran out Peter Fitzgerald for Zero, and now you have the nerve to come on here and defend the choice of this corrupt, liberal abomination on a Conservative website ? Are you serious ?
I already stated in umpteen prior threads that we should not rubber stamp what was a shamefully FIXED election (more like coronation) for this farce of a Congressman, who stands like a stone wall 100% opposed to Conservative positions and causes. Someone, for whom if he reaches the Senate will continue to move farther to the left, and for whom if we reach that 50/51 seat margin, will pull a Specter or a Jeffords. Sorry, pal.
Alexi will be going to jail, and rather have the rodent crook who will embarrass the Democrats and have Governor Brady appoint a NON-Combiner to the vacancy than have that corrupt, liberal RINO Combiner trash like Kirk claim a “victory” for the Republicans and cause US and our cause a grave embarrassment. No more support of crooked, liberal weasels. I only support honest Conservatives for office.
BTW, if you think ACU ratings tell the whole story on Republican elected officials and their loyalty to either Conservatism, ethics, or good government, you are also sadly mistaken. I learned that the hard way.
Damn, and people point fingers at us down in Louisiana, we are amateurs compared to ya’ll.
You just voted for Giannoulias.
Well, it’s different in LA. People were willing to tolerate in down there (not like they were hiding it much) so long as they didn’t violate the sacred mantra of “Laissez les bontemps roulet.” The GOP was basically the reformist/anti-corruption party, anyway. In IL, it’s so bad that the crooked Combiners refuse to allow the rank and file to even CHOOSE party leadership (because they might actually, y’know, choose ethical non-Combiner leaders), and I’m just talking about the “R” wing. The selection of Kirk was so odious that the Combine pretty much told the other Congressmembers that they were to either endorse Kirk (this included Conservatives) or they’d do to them what they did to Sen. Peter Fitzgerald (which means run them out of office).
And for folks that are stupid enough to believe the “R” members of the Combine are any better than the Democrats, I might remind them that that wonderful Republican Congressman Ray LaHood was rewarded by Zero himself with a Cabinet post for all his help and cooperation in running Peter Fitzgerald out of the Senate seat. LaHood was more Conservative than Mark Kirk. Understand how disgusted many of us are, and rightfully so, at people who mindlessly cheerlead for Kirk when they don’t know what the hell is going on in this state. This guy is rotten, and there’s not a dime’s worth of difference between him and the rodent running on the ticket. Combiner Democrats in IL won’t even care if Kirk wins, because their position and power is still secure. That’s how big a joke this election is.
Randy Stufflebeam is a Patriot! We need help collecting signatures starting in March. Randy is a Veteran and a true conservative!!
Stufflebeam is only a fallback if Dillard steals the nod from Brady on the Gov side. We do need to support Brady otherwise. Combiner Kirk can get stuffed.
Obama won huge in the state. He won Mazullo’s seat which never voted for a rat President before. Melissa Bean’s seat is still a Republican seat. Bush overperformed in Texas too. It’s called home state advantage.
“SHE KNOWS the wisdom of cutting members in difficult districts some slack, even if you guys cant grasp it.”
Dude. Cap and trade and partial birth abortion is not “slack”. A supermajorty of people oppose partial birth abortion. And Kirk’s district is in the suburbs not the inner city. He doesn’t “need” to vote the way he does. He believes in environazism and abortion for any reason, he was voting his conscience, not his district.
We are talking apples an oranges. I am not taking about the Governors race.
When did Stufflebeam switch to the Senate race ? He’s listed as a Gubernatorial candidate.
I thought Eric Wallace was the best Conservative Indy to support who was already in the Senate race. He refused to participate in that sham of a GOP primary.
Since Saturday
News to me. His website link is dead, too.
Have you seen the latest anti-Kirk attack ads? Alex G. has an Anti-Iraqi war veteran bashing Kirk for being in the pocket of Big Oil and how investing in Green technology stops terrorism.
McCain’s and Lindsey Graham’s ACU ratings are in the 80’s and they’ve done more harm to the Republican party than good.
I have not. I looked on his site by all I see are ads from the primary.
The ads are playing on FNC. They are not produced by Alex G. They made by an anti-war veterans 527 group.
