Hutchison gets endorsement in GOP race [TxGov-American Statesman]

Hutchison brings grown-up approach to working on behalf of Texans and gets endorsement in GOP race

Kay Bailey Hutchison might not be the flashiest or the most beloved politician Texas has ever produced, but it's a mistake to discount or denigrate her accomplishments and record.

As an institution, we have disagreed with the senator on various issues, but we recognize her effectiveness. We also appreciate the fact that she acts like an adult, talks like an adult and treats Texans like adults.

No, Hutchison is not the flashiest politician in the race, but she is nonetheless the best choice in the Republican primary. While incumbent Gov. Rick Perry has to stretch the facts about his unprecedented nine years as governor, the sad fact is that he has little to show for that long tenure. Even sadder is that the governor is turning into a caricature in order to please a rowdy constituency that feeds on secessionist fantasies and fairy tales about tax cuts.

What Hutchison offers is a record of substantive leadership in transportation, border security and education, among others. She is not afraid to speak her mind but appears to be playing defense as she navigates the Republican gubernatorial primary race. Behind in the polls and dragging a rather mediocre campaign, the senator struggles for footing in her challenge of Perry and Debra Medina, the GOP activist who has surged since mid-January........

Hutchison isn't perfect, but she's effective, knows how to work with Democrats and doesn't just complain about Washington. She's learned to work effectively for Texans there.

She's the best choice in the Republican gubernatorial primary. .....

Hutchison campaign aims to rally GOP sisterhood

Dallas Morning News

AUSTIN – Kay Bailey Hutchison is counting on female voters to recognize her history of cracking glass ceilings as the first Republican woman in the state Legislature, as state treasurer, as a U.S. senator from Texas and, just maybe, as governor.

Hutchison has fought for women's issues, broken barriers and been one of the most popular politicians in the state. But so far, women are not rallying to her, not by the percentages she needs to win the March 2 GOP primary. She has attracted more than 300 Republicans to Women for Kay luncheons in Dallas and Houston. But that pales to the 15,000 expected to show up at a rally Sunday in suburban Houston for rival Rick Perry and Sarah Palin – the new face of success for many Republican women........

The outreach to women in the Hutchison campaign has been unmistakable. Women for Kay has 16,000 members. There is a phone-banking group, a Facebook page and peer-to-peer letter writing campaigns all geared to women.

If I was voting for a sister GOP in TX, I’d be voting for Medina.

I figured it would happen.

This is my hometown paper and all I read any more are the ads.

So they are basically saying that Perry is obsessed with tax cuts, and Hutch works well with Democrats.

Who were they trying to get republicans to vote for again? LOL

In a sane world, endorsement by the Austin American-Statesman ought to be the kiss of death for any candidate. But of course, Austin isn’t a sane world.

From the looks of things the GOP doesn’t get it either, I guess they will be taught a lesson along with the rats.

Bill White will mop the floor with KBH, and the Austin leftist propaganda rag knows this.

The Bush machine is behind Kay Bailey. When will Dubya and Jeb make campaign appearances for Kay? Also, will the Ted Nugent, Sarah Palin and Perry rally be shown on C-Span today?

KBH just got the kiss of death by endorsement from Austin American Communist Statesman. Gov race over for her. It is between Medina and Perry now.

the sad fact is that he has little to show for that long tenure.

Little to show? Texas is actually in good fiscal shape compared to states like California. Does this paper think that just happened by accident?

Same here. I always wonder how namby-pamby people like Hutchinson get elected in the first place? Ditto for Grassley, Reid, Lindsay Grahamnesty, Snowe, and many others. How do they create a following? It’s a mystery to me.

The problem with Kay Bailey-Hutchison is that she is a Washington insider.

She is strongly supported by Washington insiders.

I personally am sick and tired of Washington insiders.

And, isn't her last name spelled in feminist fashion; her last name and then her husband's last name as a hyphenated extension? Kay Bailey-Hutchison

Haven’t seen anything on that and haven’t looked at the C-Span schedule. I had some other stuff marked for posting and I’ve lost them. One thing I noted is that they mentioned possible 15,000 at the Perry rally.

They haven’t written an endorsement for the dems yet that I’ve seen. However the following is out today from the Dallas area:

Dallas Mayor Pro Tem Dwaine Caraway is backing Farouk Shami, the deep-pocketed underdog Democrat, for governor.
