“John Lennon caused a worldwide storm by claiming that the Beatles were more popular than Jesus. “

If one watches the actual interview and listens to the actual statement in context and in its entirety then one gets a different perspective on the whole incident.

Lennon did not “claim” that the Beatles were more popular than Jesus. He made an observation. There is a huge difference.

It didn’t sound to me like he was trying to claim that they were superior to Jesus or anything of the sort. On the contrary, it sounded to me like he was incredulous that they were more popular than Jesus Christ. Listen to the tone of voice.

And we need to remember that at the time that statement was made, the Beatles WERE more popular than Jesus Christ.

That whole situation, with the media-fed uproar, record burning and religious groups and clergy getting their sphincters all in a knot was just much ado about nothing.

It is really an illustration of how the media can and does manipulate people.

“The future won’t last, it will soon be (his) tomorrows.” The Lord God gets who He wants, when He wants. Often improbable people...

“You know who else narrated some episodes of Thomas?

Noneother than George Carlin. And he was very good.”

He was “Mr. Conductor” for a few seasons worth.

Believe it or not, people were bringing their little children to George Carlin’s comedy shows at that time, only to be horrified when he went into full profanity mode. They only knew of him as Mr. Conductor and thought they would be seeing some kindly old railroad worker, I guess.

The promoters finally made warning signs that they put up at the entrances to the shows that warned of profanity and offensive language. They continued this right up to the last show.

I have lived with the fallout of the counterculture movement these people popularized. It sucks.

Bible says pray for those who spitefully use you.
