When I read that they can “see” your dreams on a monitor, I wondered what could be done in this regard.
Now do imagine anyone who let someone else die will ever feel some guilt?
me too
Oops forgot source. http://www.catholiceducation.org/articles/medical_ethics/me0074.html
It’s hard to believe that someone didn’t figure this out a long time ago.
Just because brain activity is low at the onset of the person’s problem doesn’t mean it is going to be that way forever.
The answer is, as of this study and right now - no. The study said that they saw results with people who suffered traumatic brain injury, but showed no response for those who suffered brain damage from oxygen deprivation (like Terry).
Terry was concious. She didn’t need anyone to read her brain waves.
PLEASE EVERYONE QUIT REPEATING THE MEDIA LIES THAT TERRI WAS PVS. GET EDUCATED.

So were some of those in the study. The question was would this technology would have helped her. The answer is no, because per the study, her brain waves would not have shown a response.
Are you saying she was brain dead?
Where did you get the information about others in the study being concious. The article only speaks of non responsive or coma patients. Terri was neither.
BTW, the study is saying it can’t help PVS patients. The article assumes that Terri was PVS. The man said he couldn’t help Terri’s case based on a LIE perpetuated by the media. I wish people on this forum (who are normally really good about finding the truth) would stop perpetuating this lie against Terri.
Nope. no one ever claimed that. There is a difference in being brain dead and being able to have reponses to questions recorded by changes in brain wave activity.
The study is pretty specific that the responses were in people who suffered from traumatic injury and that they recieved no changes in activity in those suffering from oxygen deprivation, like Terry did. Since they were not able to record the response in those patients, this wouldn’t have helped her.
I was thinking the same exact thing as I was reading this article. This is excellent news.
On a humorous note, I also thought about that Seinfeld episode where Kramer wants the plug to be pulled should he ever fall into a coma.
The AP story has more details that Reuters.

“The new study used brain scanning called functional MRI, or fMRI, for 23 patients in a vegetative state and 31 diagnosed as minimally conscious.
Patients are diagnosed as being in a vegetative state if they are tested and found unable to do such things as move on command or follow a moving object with their eyes. (Their eyes are open; in contrast, comatose people’s eyes are closed.) Minimally conscious patients show signs of awareness, but they are minimal and intermittent.”
Again, it’s really moot as no responses were found in people with injuries like Terri’s.
So would I!
But the answer remains correct. No derision can change it!
Was her whole brain damaged? I thought I read somewhere that there were parts of her brain that were functional. Perhaps it depends on where the damage occurs since they were only able to get response from 4 of the 23 tested. This is quite new technology and it surprises me that they can so conclusively say that it won't work for other types of brain injury. It's not something that a responsible scientist would claim on such a small sampling. I'm just sayin....
If it were politically profitable to do so, this condescending term would have been banished from official-speak a generation ago.
I suspect she was strangled.
It never made sense how Terry S. got into that state. If her cheating hubby was willing to starve her to death rather than just divorce her, I doubt that it would be a stretch to assume he did something to her.
The test was done on people thought to be in a vegetative state. Terri wasn’t in a vegetative state per your definition. Have you ever watched the videos of her? My point was that the media and people on this forum keep perpetuating the lie that she was PVS.
