Pakistan blast kills US soldiers
BBC ^ | 3rd Feburary 2010 | Staff and Agencies

Three US soldiers are among at least 10 people killed when a blast hit a convoy near a school in north-west Pakistan.

Police said around 70 people, including 63 school girls and a US soldier, were injured in the bombing in Lower Dir.

The soldiers were believed to have been training Pakistan's Frontier Corps in counter-insurgency operations.

The two governments deny substantial numbers of US troops are based inside Pakistan, where public opinion is strongly opposed to their presence.

The US embassy has declined to comment on the killings.

Taliban presence

Military spokesman Maj Gen Athar Abbas told the BBC that the US personnel were attached to the Frontier Corps as military trainers.

Pakistan's Frontier Corps is a paramilitary force responsible for operations against militants in the volatile north-west, near the Afghan border.

The Taliban has claimed responsibility for a bombing at a newly renovated school in northwest Pakistan in which three American soldiers were killed.
“We claim responsibility for the blast,” Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) spokesman Azam Tariq said.

“We will continue such attacks on Americans.”

The US embassy said three US military personnel who were due to attend the opening of the school were killed, and two others wounded.

The embassy condemned the “vicious terrorist bombing” in the Lower Dir district, where Pakistan launched an assault to drive out Taliban militants last year.

The soldiers were in the region as part of a small US mission to train members of the Frontier Corps to better fight al Qaeda and the Taliban, Pakistan’s army said

Training the trainers- nudge nudge wink wink ;o) You can bet that they were doing everything they could to bring death to the tally and aq... and I expect that they relished the assignment. If they are in Paki at this location, it's highly likely that they are elsewhere- nudge nudge wink wink ;o) They were likely sold out by an inside source... and their attackers either knew they were taking out US journalists or US soldiers. A payback needs to be implemented with extreme prejudice.

Been there for quite some time. Doing FID with Pak Frontier Corps - Nothing new here -

However, there would seem to be an ugly leaks game being played out between both sides Intel assets of late. Starting with the CIA hit. Or igniting with the CIA hit.

Though, perhaps the Pak-Taliban just got lucky here with the U.S. footprint showing up.

My guess is the bad guys in the ISI are mad we are killing their partners with missiles in the bush. This is payback. It is my hope we are running a counter operation with the good guys in the ISI and are watching for the rats to scurry out of the nest. I can hope.

Did you see the O’Reilly Factor last night? There was a segment about our special forces now conducting capture-kill operations in Pakistan of al-Q/Taliban-types.

Do you mean that segment that O’blowhard kept cutting off the knowledgeable ones to continue spewing?

He only let the two guests speak 3-4 words before cutting them off and bloviating about the topic.
