"Professor' Obama? President's SOTUS Notches 4th Lowest Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level Score
smart politics ^ | 01/19/10 | Eric Ostermeier

Text of Obama's Address has a readability score for an average 8th grader - two grades lower than George W. Bush's Addresses and the historical average for modern presidents

Barack Obama's ability as a public speaker since his 2008 presidential campaign has been alternately viewed, often depending on whether or not one is an Obama supporter, along various dyads: being inspirational versus being aloof, intellectualizing versus lecturing etc.

Along those lines, in her first month as a commentator for FOX News, Sarah Palin criticized Obama's first State of the Union Address on Wednesday night as "lecturing" the American public.

Unlike the criticisms hurled at his predecessor, however, few have ever charged that the President, a former senior lecturer in Constitutional law at the University of Chicago Law School, has written or spoken too simplistically or catered his words to the lowest common denominator.

However, a Smart Politics analysis of nearly 70 oral State of the Union Addresses since the mid-1930s finds the text of Obama's speech on Wednesday evening to have one of the lowest scores on the Flesch-Kincaid readability test ever recorded by a U.S. President.

Hey! We know he’s a boob. Even the Sheeple (and even here in Taxachusetts!) are figuring that out. We don’t need pseudo-science to prove it!

There is no Barack Obama. He never existed.

What we have is a State Run Media created fastasy covering up an ignorant, arrogant, narcissistic, petty, incompetent, semi-delusional, colossally deceitful, pathetic excuse for a human.

It’s definitely not pseudo-science. The Flesch-Kincaid is a well known method for gauging reading level. Publishing companies rely on it!

The third grade level was designed for the audience.
THE DEMOCRAT AUDIENCE IS THIRD GRADE LEVEL!

Clinton's speeches were horrible also. Like a principal nagging kids to start being neater in the cafeteria. One of his SOTU’s one of the themes was hiring people off of welfare. According to Andy Rooney, Clinton said, “We must ...” something like sixty times. Andy Rooney suggested hiring some people off welfare to write Clinton's speeches.

You are giving the audience waaay too much credit. Remember they said they couldn’t read the bills—we ASSUMED it was because they chose not to or did not have time. Little did we know that they simply couldn’t understand the bills!!

I didn’t commission the study—I just posted it; in part because the media was ruthless—constantly excoriating Bush for his speeches, yet we have dear leader with his “57 states” and simplistic speeches.

I respectfully object to your characterization. IMHO, “semi-delusional” is just plain wrong.

I’d say “completely delusional.”

Half of Congress are lawyers who could read those bills if they wanted to.

The SOTUS was aimed at the semiliterate Democrat voters being produced by the Democrat education/indoctrination system. Even college grad liberal socialist Democrats have a third grade reading level. All they need to know is who their handlers tell them to vote for. Even Iranian Persians are smarter than they are given credit for.

word processors as Corel’s WordPerfect have the Flesh-WKincaid algorithm...as I think the latest Microsoft Word do too.

Well, if the reading grade level were too high, Obama might have difficulty reading his teleprompter. That would be unacceptable!

Obama insults the intelligence of any informed, intelligent American nearly every time he addresses a particular subject.

He lies and misleads constantly and talks down to Americans in general.

His hard-core supporters break down into three camps:

1) The underclass. They don’t know he is lying, but they know Obama is gonna give them some from his stash somewhere!

2) Government employees. Our politics is increasingly becoming the party of government employees vs the American people.

3) The liberal elite in academia and the media-entertainment complex.

The liberal elite know Obama is lying and condescending, but they view that as entirely consonant with a worldview that a few “smart” people should handle the levers of government and that government should have sweeping powers of control over the population.

They believe average people are too dumb to run their own lives.

In order to create a self-fulfilling prophecy, they subsidize the growth of the underclass in this country and support the immigration into America of a low-skilled, low-educated third world population numbering in the tens of millions.

And they run interference for Obama in the media, the schools and the popular culture.

To make it easy for the Bummer to read from TOTUS without stumbling?

Why don’t they just skip the Bummer and just project the TOTUS in front of the Congress and USSC.

Actually, we were taught in the late 80’s that when writing memos and manuals for the average High School graduate, that they HAD to be written at the expected comprehension level of an 8th grader.

Bills, did you say bills?
I heard Bambi gonna pay all my bills, that’s all I need to know. How’s that for readability?
