re post 15,
You are right Maine is not likely to elect a conservative Republican. At least Collins & Snowe voted with the party and did not cross over on the healthcare key votes. Party unity is crucial when the Senate is 60/40. We hope they stick with the party on similar key votes even if the GOP gains some Senate seats in 2010 & 2012.

The fact is that this admin. had no intention of admitting this was a terrorist act until the terrorists in Yeman claimed credit for it.
Their intention was to cover it up, as they did the Ft. Hood shooting and other acts, since it was done alone.
But the terrorists came out and said that they were now sending lone individuals, which blew the cover off of that lie.

I wonder who wrote that for her?
To: kristinn
She’s trying to win back favor for all her betrayals of the GOP. One statement does not make up for it.

Susan Collins has been all over this in Senate hearings. Good to see her standing up against the democrats once in a while.

The Director of National Intelligence was not consulted.
The Secretary of Defense was not consulted.
The Secretary of Homeland Security was not consulted.
The Director of the National Counterterrorism Center was not consulted.
Good for Collins, but when she made the statements above,, she too was mistaken since those people work for the same president who very likely authorized the Mirandizing of Abdulmutallab, and those people would've just followed the same guidelines from the president. The guidelines stink from the top down.

As I said earlier, do you want her first Senate vote to be for Harry Reid? --
That depends on the direction the federal government is taking in general. As long as the Republicans are saying "we can do better at crafting government help," then I am indifferent as to which party is in control.
I'm through voting for "lesser of evils." I'm no purist, but neither Collins nor Snowe meets my meager criteria for being acceptable. I'll say it again, I believe the GOP takes a vote in support as a statement of support for position and policy. Unless I can support the position and policy of the candidate, no vote.

It’s always a good thing when anyone speaks the truth boldly. Doesn’t mean one has to suddenly start supporting them or even want them winning the next election. But I’d hate to become so cynical that I can no longer applaud someone who states truth clearly and logically.

After Barry’s little speech about how Repubs are listening to their bases and therefore have no clout with the President, maybe more Repubs will take a stand.

Susan Collins’ manner of speaking gets on my last nerve but her message is spot on, finally.

I’m not surprised. I remember Susan Collins during the Chinagate hearings. She takes national security seriously — particularly on the intel side.
I’ve also been reading a book by Ashcroft — “Never Again.” Collins fought for him every time she had a chance.
