National Write Your Congressman (Vanity)

My sister has asked me to share in the cost of subscribing to this organization. Other than the organization's own website, very little information comes up with Google and Yahoo search.

Why do you and your sister need to join a group and pay a subscription fee to write your congressman? You can write your congressman for the cost of a stamp. Better yet, email them from their own websites. “Exclusive content”?

I completely agree with the post above, I see no reason why anyone would pay to be a member of that site. These resources are free all over the internet from dozens, if not hundreds of other sites.

I’m also concerned about the legitimacy of that site. Apart from charging for information that one can find free all over, the registration information appears to be to an LLC whose purpose is gathering ‘customer data’. In other words, this may be a mill to gather names and addresses (not to mention credit card information).

The administrative contact’s name seems to be someone with their foot in a lot of internet marketing gimmicks.

And getting people to pay for the privilege of having their personal data harvested. Very clever, probably not against the law, but a complete and utter waste of time and money. I still don’t understand why one would need to join this kind of outfit in order to write congress.

My sister and her husband own and operate a large dairy operation and cattle/hay hauling business. I’m a legal assistant. We have families and are very busy. Of course, we have written to our respective congressmen (via email, fax, letter) on MANY occasions and regarding many different issues. As relative newcomers to the political arena, we want to avoid the pitfalls of “knowing a little can be more dangerous than knowing nothing at all.” We would also like to educate ourselves without expending significant amounts of time researching “all over the internet from dozens, if not hundreds of other sites.” The appeal of the service is the summary of weekly legislation being considered at both the federal and state levels.

Good marketing makes something sound more appealing than what it is.

This service, in addition to appearing to have ulterior motives of data collection, is a service you shouldn’t have to pay for. Save your money for more worthy causes and protect your privacy from third party collectors. Some alternatives you can use are:

http://conservativeusa.org/megalink.htm

http://www.congressmerge.com/onlinedb/

https://writerep.house.gov/writerep/welcome.shtml

I would suggest using one of these sites to get the data and creating your own distribution list in either Outlook or Thunderbird.

Protecting your privacy is important, why go through a third party site where you don’t know what happens to your data.
