THE POLITICIAN:An Insider’s Account of John Edwards’s Pursuit of the Presidency
New York Times ^ | January 28, 2009 | Janet Maslin

Posted on 01/28/2010 3:40:32 PM PST by lbryce

Andrew Young’s hero was an inspiring Southern orator and a paragon of Christian virtue. He was a pillar of his community. Then he was photographed in compromising circumstances, outed as an adulterer and beset by a scandal that destroyed his career. “They caught me, Andrew,” the Rev. Bob Young confessed to his heartbroken teenage son.

The traumatized son later went on to subordinate his life to John Edwards’s political career, becoming one of his most trusted aides. And he allowed his own reputation to be ruined in a vain effort to save Mr. Edwards from embarrassment. How much of that dutiful behavior can be explained by his father’s fall?

“Armchair psychologists will say that when John Edwards came along, I adopted him as a substitute for my father,” Mr. Young writes in “The Politician,” his mind-boggling book about the sheer freakiness of Mr. Edwards’s hubris, ambition and dishonesty. Of course they will. Armchair psychologists don’t have it any easier than this.

But the Young-Edwards version of the Faust story defies reductive theorizing. It’s just too bizarre for that. Mr. Young describes how he; his wife, Cheri; his children; and Mr. Edwards’s pregnant girlfriend, Rielle Hunter, all moved in together (“the kids awakened to find a strange lady in the house”) while Mr. Young allowed himself to be falsely named as the baby’s father-to-be. The Youngs’ “unnervingly surreal misadventure” is as strange as science fiction. The people in this uneasy household gathered each week to watch “American Idol” together without noticing that their own drama could out-soap anything television had to offer.

Screw this Andy Young, OK? Just screw him! Putting it out for this 2 year old to one day read that not only did his father deny him, but wanted him killed. NO KID should ever hear that. I suggest this SOB take the MONEY he got from the publisher, give it to a decent life-affirming cause and, then, either go live a life of penance or commit suicide. I am disgusted with every one of these people and what they’ve put out about this innocent baby.

Edwards latest speech:

[start thick southern accent]

“There are two Americas. In one America, honest and faithful men love and support their wives. Then there is the other America. In this America scumbag politicians impregnate dimwitted groupies and lie about it. Although I am part of this other America, I want you to really think I am from the first America. That is why I am in Haiti with Sean Penn’s camera crew. Make sense? No? Crap. I’m outta this sh*thole” and screw you.”

[end thick southern accent]

****One of the best the Dhims had to offer.****

I think you just cracked the code.

Dhims offer themselves up hungrily and without hesitation; because they are all so greedy for power, prestige and ego stroking.

Pubbies, on the other hand; have to urge, entreat and push our recalcitrant candidates into the fray - because they are genetically unable to pursue an office for the sake of power.

When the Nation is headed towards the abyss is when a GOP leader steps forward to *do his/her duty. i.e. Reagan (post Carter) and Bush (post Clinton).

This book will prevent Edwards from ever being elected to a political office.

Isn’t this the creep who was willing to sell his own soul and claim that the baby was his and not the Breck Boy’s? A pox on both of them.

The only thing that was standing between this jerk being one heartbeat away from the Oval Office was the electoral votes of Ohio.

There is a sliding scale scale that quantifies Democrat behavior/activity based on the degree in which sheer freakinesss differentiates one Democrat from another. Clearly JFK’s peccadillos are not as far down the “sheer freakiness” scale as Clinton’s was in keeping Yasser Arafat waiting for 45 minutes while he got to make the most of a really fine cigar, or that in which Mr. Edwards indulges in as described in the article.

Edwards’ wife and the MSM covered up his affair during the campaign.

They are all rotten and would gladly have seen him win the White House with this story buried.

Makes you wonder what the MSM has supressed about Barry O..

How many people on the campaign staff were aware that he was illegally using campaign funds to pay off his mistress?

There is a reason that the pigs in the Democrat Party want to see abortion kept legal in every instance. It covers up tracks.

John Edwards is perhaps the most loathsome politician in the last ten years to ascend to the national stage, and I thought this was true long before he was exposed for his extramarital affair. He’s a sleazy trial lawyer who has gotten rich fleecing honest society, while claiming that “he’s been fighting these people for years.” He’s everything I detest about the trial lawyers lobby, a preening, self-righteous, slow-witted political lightweight whose only marketable skill is separating productive members of society from their money by exploting (some would say abusing) the civil judicial system. These guys are the tax collectors of our day, utter parasites. The highlight of the 2004 campaign was watching Dick Cheney undress him in the vice presidential debate (and, yes, I understand the metaphor is an unfortunate one...).

As for Elizabeth Edwards, I sympathize with her in her illness, but not for anything else. She’s known all along what John Edwards is, and never had any problems with it as long as the checks kept coming and the celebrity lifestyle was supported.

"President" John Edwards could have been blackmailed with his sex tapes:

Not being emotionally invested in this, I can say I am so glad Elizabeth is getting a divorce and getting l/2 of the cash now for her and her three children. He will be paying out for many years on the new baby, which would really frost any “first wife”. His political career is finished and who knows if he will even be able to keep his legal license after the investigation. Can’t see him raking in the dough he’s been used to in the future. His only hope is re-marrying some gal with lots of cash in the future (and that rules out Rielle). What a sorry state of things he’s made.

Let’s all keep things in perspective here, even as we join in the beat-down.

The only reason John Edwards is now a pariah is because he stayed in long enough to sink Hillary.

Otherwise, the MSM and the left would still be covering for him and making excuses for him.
