U.S. Sen.-elect Scott Brown vowed today not to toe the Republican Party line - saying hed publicly shame the GOP if they try to bully him.
Im going to be my own person, Brown told the Herald in his State House office today.
I dont believe theyre going to say, If youre not with us were going to hold these committee assignments, I think Im going to be treated pretty fairly, Brown said about his renegade status, adding he has no qualms about calling out any political arm-twisting.

Flame away
I don’t have a problem with him sticking to his values, IF they are truly the ones he espoused during his campaign. I can tolerate some deference to constituancy...where I’d have a real problem is when he deviates from what he promised.
Nothing like a little creative headline writing from our MSM to stoke the embers of discontent in the Republican base. Mission accomplished, I’m sure MSM.
I am fine with an independent view, as long it is for the good of his state and the country, not the me-first attention whore type of independent thinker we have with McCain or lil’ Lindsey of SC.
Adding another thought.....why do I have some stake in what he executes? Because, although he promised he’d take his constituency’s welfare into account, he’d also do what’s best for America - ergo, my stake in this.
If his votes match his campaign rhetoric fine...we’ll see if he’s true to his word or not in due time.
There, you are flamed.
Oh, as for the topic you are probably right.
It’s from the Boston Herald
Whiney cry-babies.
What else would you expect?
True enough, better than Coakley, but it wasn’t independents who pumped millions into his campaign. Not that he should toe the GOP line, but he should stand for the principles he was elected on and not compromise those, i.e. healthcare, fight against terrorism, etc. You do need to “dance with the one that brung you”....and Scott Brown was “brung” by conservative’s donations to his campaign, and the people who voted for him based on what he promised. We don’t need another “I’m in Washington now and I’ll do as I please” Senator.
Besides, he received campaign donations from all over the country (including my $50) , plus we were all making phone calls into Massachusetts.
It does make me a little nervous... I do respect the fact that he is telling other Republicans that he wants to know more about them before he supports them. There are a lot of Republicans that need to go almost as much as the dems need to go. Like the rest of you I just want to see his voting record align with what he promised.
He’s already McCain’s concubine. Welcome to the harem, Scott. Try not to upset Lindsay too much. He’s fragile.
If he is outright hostile too and against us, 75% of the time, it’s still better than 100% of the time. And that’s what we had and we’re gonna get!
“Brown reached out to U.S. Sen. John McCain, an early supporter, to campaign for him, however.”
Not good.
But we can’t look a gift horse in the mouth.
LOL! Thanks for the laugh.
Just so. And I recall some FReeper outrage a few days ago when Glenn Beck suggested keeping an eye on what Brown does rather than go into orgasmic ecstasy over just having another "R" in Congress.
He hasn’t cast a vote yet so we’ll just have to wait and see. It’s okay sometimes to vote with the Dems when it comes to appointments, etc. Sometimes it just has to be done. Gee, no matter what he does (except switch parties), he’ll be an improvement over any Kennedy or Coakley, who would have been an guaranteed Dem vote.
If he sees McCain or Grahamnesty walking toward him, gesturing.. Run Scott Run!! :-]
He’s a democrat.
We all supported Brown because he promised to vote against health care, to promote fiscal responsibility, to vote against cap and trade and to vote for acts that will fight terrorism.
This is the “deal” that we made with our enthusiastic support. And if he does those things, he has earned the votes that he got.
That doesn’t mean that he’s going to be my favorite senator...and I will actively campaign against any talks of Brown in the White house.
