March 2, 1999 Today Senator John McCain spoke to the National council of La Raza and made the following remarks:

Thank you. I am deeply grateful for this award and honored by your recognition. It means a great deal to me. There are few things in my public career that have meant more to me than the support I have received from Hispanic-Americans. Your generosity to me reminds me why it is an honor to speak up for inclusiveness in our national politics and against the politics of division.

Let me first congratulate La Raza on its 31st anniversary, and add my voice to the chorus of praise for this organization, and the good people who make it work. Yours is an extraordinary labor of love, and I salute you for it.

As many of you know, I was honored to receive an award from Lulac last week. The message I delivered that evening is the same message I bring tonight; it is my appeal to everyone, Republican and Democrat alike, that we should all work toward a new American unity, and move beyond the stale debates between right and left on issues that for too long have obstructed our progress toward that important goal.

“I disagreed strongly with the Bush administration’s mismanagement of the war in Iraq.”

McCain's anti-Bush/anti-Rumsfeld venom kicked into overdrive in the run-up to the 2006 midterms. Iraq basically cost us the House and the Senate, and McCain's treachery was a huge part of that. I'll never forget his stupid mug on every Sunday morning show that would have him slamming the administration and legitimizing the leftist attacks.

Of course, that's something only intractable "purists" would care about.

This one is interesting AuntB. less than one month later the barracks were bombed, with the loss of 241 United States Marines.

RE Post 63 Previously posted on FR, by D1:

Good lord...what a list.

In retrospect, it’s probably better that he didn’t win the election - as the Dems now have their TRUE faces on, and many people are waking up to who they really are. Hopefully, it will be enough to facilitate their downfall.

McCain would have given them continued cover. He really WOULD have been the Manchurian Candidate...

Thank you for posting this list. I’ve never seen it so sequentially stated before, and it sheds serious light on how damaging he’s been.

Arlen, McCain, Snowe, Collins, etc., etc...time to retire them all.

All politics is NATIONAL now, folks.
