How Dems can prevent a November nightmare: Pass Obamacare (Plouffe-Wash Post)
Washington Post ^ | 1-24-10 | David Plouffe

Excerpt:

We still have much to do before November, and time is running short. Every race has unique characteristics, but there are a few general things that Democrats can do to strengthen our hand. ad_icon

-- Pass a meaningful health insurance reform package without delay. Americans' health and our nation's long-term fiscal health depend on it. I know that the short-term politics are bad. It's a good plan that's become a demonized caricature. But politically speaking, if we do not pass it, the GOP will continue attacking the plan as if we did anyway, and voters will have no ability to measure its upside. If we do pass it, dozens of protections and benefits take effect this year. Parents won't have to worry their children will be denied coverage just because they have a preexisting condition. Workers won't have to worry that their coverage will be dropped because they get sick. Seniors will feel relief from prescription costs. Only if the plan becomes law will the American people see that all the scary things Sarah Palin and others have predicted -- such as the so-called death panels -- were baseless. We own the bill and the health-care votes. We need to get some of the upside. (P.S.: Health care is a jobs creator.)

This is their plan and if they stick to it it will be straight off the cliff

The narcissists after the attack of MA at work ... their would either retreat or get revenge. Passing Healthcare is the revenge on the people.

It is truly encouraging to see that Obama brought Plouffe back into the fold. It means, in all likelihood, that we’ll see more of the same nonsense instead of any kind of correction of course. And even greater losses for the Dems come November.

Both the links are invalid-they just link back to the FR post page.

In the short run maybe. But once passed, gubmint programs are very hard to get rid of. The congressional elections are like one at-bat in a very long baseball game. The true believers will understand that they SHOULD pass whatever they can pass. Why not? Obama will suffer for it, but so what? They just need to make sure that Ginsburg retires from the court while he’s still president. The left wins in the end. Did Reagan, Bush 1 or Bush 2 or the 94 Congress or the 2000 Congress do anything to roll back entitlements? Um, no. In fact, Bush and the GOP congress ADDED a health care entitlement of their own. If the DEMs are smart, they’ll pass something, take the short term hit, and move on.

Does the Democrat Congress want to commit political suicide (don’t have a job in 2010) to pass this Marxist agenda. I think some will be willing but there is no way they get everyone on board for this one after the massacre in Massachusetts.

Has the WaPo no understanding of the concept of...when you find yourself in a hole, stop digging?

If this bill is forced through on reconciliation or some other parliamentary trick...the Democrat party will become toxic in November.

Please, go ahead...make my day.

What better gift from the democrats that to have a campaign about Obamacare. An open discussion about the details will doom the dems to defeat. All we need is a good conservative group of people running for office. We need to run the RINO’s out of town in the process.

Oh they’ll stick to it alright. Obama is making Plouffe head of the democrat politburo and he’ll have oversight of democrat elections nationwide.

Not only have they not stopped digging, they’ve brought in heavy equipment to make it much deeper.

“Only if the plan becomes law will the American people see that all the scary things Sarah Palin and others have predicted”

Hey Plouffe, Sarah Palin is just a little ole unemployed gal from Alaska. Why are you so terrified of her? That she is the only opposition politician named in this chump’s first volley after Zero brought him back on board is extremely revealing.

They list the benefits, but how will Americans react to mandatory insurance and fines administered by the IRS? And wait until the real costs are known when the bill kicks in in 2013.
