INDIANAPOLIS -- Tuesday's political shocker in Massachusetts is bringing harsh criticism from Indiana Sen. Evan Bayh, who some say is now vulnerable.
Republicans picked up the seat of the late Sen. Ted Kennedy, with Scott Brown defeating Martha Coakley in a close, bitter race.
The loss of such a solidly Democratic seat has prompted Bayh, who faces re-election this year, to severely criticize the party's strategy and approach.
"If you lose Massachusetts, if it's not a wake-up call, there's no hope of waking up," he said Wednesday.
Brown's successful campaign against Coakley was based largely on his opposition to President Barack Obama's health care program, to which Bayh was a late and reluctant convert.
Without mentioning the president or congressional leaders by name, Bayh on Wednesday sharply criticized the Democrats' attempt to push what he called an ultraliberal program.
"The only way we're able to govern successfully in this country is by liberals or progressives making common cause with independents and moderates," he said. "Whenever you have just the furthest left elements in the Democratic Party attempting to impose their will on the rest of the country, that's not going to work too well."

He has supported every far left proposal that came up including cap and tax, the man has been as predictable as the sunrise.
You will now see him jump so far to the right Lugar will be nothing but a dot over his left shoulder (not that he would have to move that far for that). Watching him lose this year will be soooo sweet...
Well gee Evan, maybe you shouldn’t have been running with that herd if you didn’t want to jump off the cliff. Its a little late for turning back now.
When I was in high school, we used to drive our cars down to the grain elevators with our lights out. We would pull up to the waste grain piles near the tracks and suddenly turn on the lights. Thousands of rats would scatter.
They’re all vulnerable and the most arrogant of them are certifiably TOAST.
Now wait just wait one minute...didn’t Bayh vote with the Democrats on Health Care? Bayh YOU ARE A LIAR. You’re trying to save your behind. YOUR VOTE proves you are part of the Ultraliberal team. Here’s a hint - Find a new job.
Interesting how Bayh left out Conservatives in the Utopia in his mind. I guess he only uses them when he needs them, but too bad that he’s forgotten that we’re the largest group in the US.
Evan has been a water carrier; a good soldier now waking.
If I have anything to do with it, it will be Bye Bye Bayh.
Blah Blah. What we will have to do is figure out how to repeal thiis mess when they pass it.
You voted for Obamacare. You have no credibility.
But if you're a conservative you don't count. In fact you'll be scheduled for a concentration camp once we make Obama Emperor.
Evan come lately. I can’t wait for the roof to fall on this Casper Milquetoast. He could resin now and save us all the wait. Or Evan, switch parties, chicken.

Behneys ad has a clip Bayh praising Barak.. It is a death nail for him!
Bayh is scared ~(you know what *less); He’s going to LOSE and some “Monday Morning Quarterbacking” After the fact isn’t going to help him: Sorry Bayh you’ve already made your bed - and now you have to lay in it!~
bayh bayh, bayh
A day late and a penny short, Bayh.
There have been countless wake up calls and you have closed your eyes and ears to them all. Didn't you get a clue last August when angry citizens were turning up in droves at town meetings all over the nation and jamming phone lines and DC mailboxes with relentless complaints? I guess you believed Pelosi when she called those patriots "Nazis".
How about 9/12, when tens of thousands descended upon DC in protest against Obamacare, out of control spending, backroom deals, porkulus and Wall St. bailouts? Did you notice that or were you too busy acquiescing to Reid's every command?
What about poll after poll after poll which showed that the citizenry was strongly against porkulus, the bailouts and most of all, Obamacare? Why did you ignore those and still vote the party line?
Sorry, Sen. Bayh, your suddenly found concern is as bogus as your claim that you are a "moderate". We don't buy it and your days as a US Senator are numbered.
This whole process has been highly instructive. We have learned that there is NO SUCH ANIMAL as a MODERATE DEMOCRAT - ZIP-ZERO-NADA. The charade is fini - you're "outta here"!
I always thought of Sen. Evan Bayh to be a more Moderate Dem, wrong !
Gawd, they multiply faster then cockroaches.
