I once landed at Deadhorse and exited without much concern.

Wind was blowing heavily. I put my non-gloved hand on the metal handrail of the stairs, jerking it back in pain.

I bundled my coat around me because I hadn’t bothered to zip it up for the short walk to the terminal.

I ran inside thinking “DAMN ITS COLD”.

I looked at the weather screen. Windchill -72°F.

No gloves, open coat.

Be careful. The weather up there can be unforgiving and stupid (like mine) can be rather punishing.

Ouch!! How was your hand? Have to be really careful to put gloves back on if you’re working outside and taking notes. Inside cooling fans can be the worst, since they’re usually pretty warm inside.

The stair rail getting off the plane is covered in pipe insulation and duct tape now, for good reason.

It doesn’t take any time at all to get cold especially with only a slight wind, and its amazing how quickly a truck will get cold too.

I went outside to see if its true about water crackling in the air. Didn’t get it to happen, but the remaining water inside the cup froze to the sides in only a few seconds. The droplets on the edge were so cold they’d stick to my lip.
