When Roger Ailes started FOX News in 1996, people said he'd have no chance against CNN.

This year, FOX News will likely make $700 million of profit--more money than CNN, MSNBC and the evening newscasts of NBC, ABC and CBS combined.

Ailes rules not only the news business but politics: If Ailes were a Democrat, James Carville says, the Democrats would control 67 seats in the Senate.

David Carr and Tim Arango of the NYT provide a snapshot of News Corp's most valuable asset. Here's the money shot:

Mr. Ailes, the son of a foreman at the Packard Electric plant in Warren, Ohio, described his upbringing with three words: “God, country, family” and said that credo was responsible for the success of Fox News

No, James. If Ailes were a Democrat, FoxNews would be as irrelevant as MSNBC with comparable viewership.

Don't worry, the Obama admin will come up with a plan to rescue the failing networks and will do so by taxing FOX and spread the wealth around. No need to be successful to survive any longer.

Hey, we are just looking for fairness.

When I was just a youngster, I couldn't believe how unfair the news were. I stopped the newspaper because I couldn't stand it. Then along came Rush and Newt and their shows (both radio and TV) and I found out I wasn't the “only one.”

I watched their shows faithfully. This was well before Fox.

I truly believe that if it weren't for Fox, the deception would continue and even be 10x worse.

Stir the pot... stir the pot.

I can’t help but wonder where are the stockholders of the fringe media networks? Shouldn’t they be screaming bloody murder that their nets are losing money?

Where is Carville getting this? Which 7 seats is FOX causing to be Republican and why isn't it working with the other 60?
