Sounds like it’s a cargo jet and it has crashed in pieces in the river.

I forgot that there’s a Wheeling in Illinois. I always think of Wheeling, West Virginia, since I grew up near there. I was trying to remember what forest preserve is near Wheeling, WV.

The crash site is supposed to be in Glenview.

It’s due east of River Rd. near Camp MacDonald Rd.

January 5, 2010 (WHEELING, Ill.) (WLS) — A Lear jet crashed in a Wheeling forest preserve near Euclid Avenue Tuesday afternoon.

Emergency responders are on foot trying to get to the small plane, which crashed into a heavily wooded area. Neighboring businesses say ambulances and fire trucks have been streaming toward the site.

The extent of injuries is not clear.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the jet was in contact with Chicago Executive Airport, formerly known as Palwuakee Airport, when it lost communication and crashed.

A plane has crashed near the Chicago Executive Airport in Wheeling.

NBC Chicago’s helicopter, Sky 5, was above wreckage of a Royal Air Cargo plane resting on the west bank of the Des Plaines River.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, a Learjet making an approach to a runway at the airport about 1:30 p.m. went down about a quarter-mile north of Euclid Avenue.

The plane’s tail number is unknown, and officials are currently unclear where the plane was coming from or how many people were on board.

It looks like the aircraft was trying to land on runway 34, but went down in the river just before it got to a populated area. It appears that the pilot realized he couldn’t make the runway and went down before he would crash into homes.

That’s a noble thought...

But I believe it went down, just because...It is just that way...

Doesn’t look like you could walk away from that one...
