That's quite a nice photo of those Muslims. Great lighting, beautiful composition, even the various neutral attire seems balanced across the six of them. It has a sort of sixties-era, civil rights look and feel to it. Amazing, how the photographer just happened to have captured that perfect moment. /s

I thought the photo made these them look like fools as the walked in the cold English wearing their Muslim costumes
They are doing their best to stay warm despite wearing robes more suitable for Pakistan or Arabia

I was thinking the same thing. They should cover their faces. What’s with the dresses. The guy on the right has the same expression I experienced by a young guy pumping my gas outside Flemington NJ. First time in my life I actually felt someone wanted me dead.

If this filth were torn to pieces in the street by a howling mob, it would be no more than they deserve.

But never the honorable slice of Bacon.

It is a waste of perfectly good meat. I'd recommend tossing the rendered fat say at about 375 degrees or so.

The idea of inserting democracy into Iraq was a way to offer Muslims a different choice.

Yes, and it was a damn fool idea, that's becoming plainer every day. The Mahometan is unfit for democracy; in fact, unfit for much of anything but the iron rod on his back.

A group of Muslim protesters shouted 'murderers', 'rapists', 'baby killers' and chanted 'burn in hell' at soldiers

Some folks just need a killin.

You were saying ...

One of the goals of the the ‘war on terror’ (to use the US government venacular) was to offer potential Muslim extremist an alternative to Jihad. With so little freedom of any kind and never ending tyrrany from people like Saddam, King Faud, and others, Jihad has given many Muslims there only outlet for change.

Right here is the big mistake that I see a lot of people making about democracy in the Muslim countries (like Iraq or Afghanistan and others). It's the idea that these Islamics are really and truly oppressed -- and if only we made it so that they could be free, then they wouldn't be going on these terrorist attacks against us (supposedly attacking us because of something that we've done wrong, by either ignoring their plight and/or supporting dictators and/or supporting Israel which they don't think should exist).

Therefore, if we get rid of the dictators, and don't ignore them but try to help them, and then abandon Israel and push them hard to accommodate the terrorists on every issue -- then -- we will be fostering this "new found freedom" for them -- and they won't be wanting to come over here and try to bomb us, because they'll use their new-found freedom to build homes, have families, work hard, start businesses, be a success, build up their society and become new/mini Western democracies, with slight deviations in their cultures accommodating their history and their past.

THAT -- is all and totally wrong and stupid-thinking -- on behalf of Western observers.

They have no idea what freedom is in a Muslim culture. They only know that Sharia law and Islam go hand-in-hand, and that tells you how to live your life, the type of government you must have (i.e. that Sharia law and all that comes from the Koran) and that you must spread this same type of (what we know as) oppression and violence to the rest of the world, following the commands of the Koran and make it so that this type of government (that comes from the Koran and Sharia Law) is the government that rules over all nations of the world, with Islam being the governing and guiding force for everyone in the world.

And they know that they must violently overthrow all other governments in the world in order to achieve this. Of course, they must first violently overthrow all the governments which control the lands that Islam has controlled in the past, because it's an insult and a violation of Islam to have these in the infidel hands. That would include a very large portion of Europe and the Middle East, including Israel, of course.

The U.S. will come under control of Islam as the ruling force in due time, as they gain control of all the rest of the countries in the world, because there is no way that they can leave any country out -- of the picture, in gaining control over all the nations in the world for Allah and under Islam -- which is a "government" and not a "religion"...

So... no... there is no hope for either Iraq or Afghanistan, after all the blood that we've shed on their behalf. If only our government knew that we were wasting our time if "democracy" was the goal.

As Iraq gets stronger and free-er, and people start to benefit as a result; perhaps Jihad gets weaker.

They're all Muslim over there, at least over 95% or more (whether Shia or Sunni...). They have no intention of being free under "democracy". They have no concept of "democracy" apart from Sharia law and it's been made absolutely clear by the clerics (of Islam) that "democracy" is totally incompatible with Sharia law.

So, either over 95% of the Muslims get rid of Islam and convert to another religion -- or -- democracy is dead, with Islam in charge.

If Democracy fails in the Muslim lands as you suggest, then get ready for WW III because freedom is never going to be able to compromise with Sharia law in any way that means anything to you and me.

It will be WW III, because Islam has no intention of stopping -- until -- it is totally stopped, as it has been two times before in history. It's only when Islam is beaten down so bad and defeated so bad that they have no more ability to wage war and have to take a few centuries to recuperate, that we'll be free, once again in this world from the Islamic terrorist attacks.

It's going to take the massive wiping out of all influence of Islam in the world, and destroying their societies' ability to get by and making them so destitute and poor, that they have no ability to do anything else, except struggle to even live or eat. Then we'll have relative peace in the world -- for a while.

Okay, I’ll take your 100 dogs and raise you 2 pigs... :-)

I think they’re more scared of being around pigs, actually, even though they don’t have a high opinion of dogs.

“As Iraq gets stronger and free-er, and people start to benefit as a result; perhaps Jihad gets weaker.”

The new Iraqi Constitution places Islam as the source of legislation and highest law.

“If Democracy fails in the Muslim lands as you suggest, then get ready for WW III because freedom is never going to be able to compromise with Sharia law in any way that means anything to you and me.”

“Democracy” doesn’t mean “freedom” and certainly doesn’t mean “peaceful”. Hamas was VOTED IN by the Palestinians.

“Democracy” means “head counting”. Nothing more.

If Hamas gets voted into office, so be it. In fact, you can sort of expect this sort of vote in the first few elections. Eventually, though, that ‘anti-western’ rant will wear thin because people want a place to live, a job, and they love their children. This is just universal stuff. And, if you are right and Hamas continually gets voted into office, then we won’t have to be ‘all-tied-up-in-nots’ when we start bombing them because we’ll know what the Palistinians really believe.

Lets talk about Iran. As it is now, who really knows what they believe? We just know the rantings of their dictatorship. If a person were truly voted into power in Iran, the country would likely have a very different public face and policy...And if it didn’t....again we wouldn’t have to feel all ‘tied up in nots’ about going to war with them.

Democracy is very powerful and has nothing to do with culture. It’s simply a way for freedom to flourish. And, I’ll say it again. If the Middle East can never get their head around the concept of human rights, then we in the west are headed for a war with them. Sharia law is simply not compatible with freedom and, President Obama’s apologies to the world not withstanding, not even the liberals will will compromise their values to the Mullahs forever.

“This is just universal stuff. “

Your first mistake. It isn’t.

“If a person were truly voted into power in Iran, the country would likely have a very different public face and policy..”

Would it? Have you studied the current government’s opposition?

“Democracy is very powerful and has nothing to do with culture. It’s simply a way for freedom to flourish.”

Nonsense. Democracy has nothing to do with “freedom”. The example of Athens points to that. “Democracy” inevitably leads to tyranny.

“If the Middle East can never get their head around the concept of human rights, then we in the west are headed for a war with them.”

That’s exactly what is going to happen and has happened off and on for over 1000 years. Western concepts of “freedom” and “human rights” are antithetical to the very core of their religion.

You may be right.....I’m very familiar with the history of Islam.

By the way, I have Iranian friends and are very nice people. They left the country after the Shaw was overthrown.

I’m just saying you can’t judge an entire society based on its assinine rulers. Hitler was a complete ass but, do we condemn all Germans for ever and ever? No.

Let’s see how democracy plays out in Iraq for another couple of years before you annouce the beginning of WW III. Ok?

And democracy doesn’t ultimately lead to tyrrany. Nothing is ever done that can’t be undone by the next election.

If there were just one voice in government to deliver that message...

No, but we do and have condemned Nazis for ever and ever.

“Let’s see how democracy plays out in Iraq for another couple of years before you annouce the beginning of WW III. Ok?”

Since no law my contradict Islam, they don’t have anything we’d call a “democracy” or “freedom”. Frankly, I doubt they desire or even understand the concept. Our Republic foundation was the result of the Enlightenment.

“And democracy doesn’t ultimately lead to tyrrany. Nothing is ever done that can’t be undone by the next election.”

Your viewpoint is not backed by history.
