Article is an oldie, but goodie, especially if you are not up on your Favre history and are looking for interesting reading on a cold winter’s night.

Brett came to mind for me, however, because as I’ve been keeping up with Rush’s stint in the hospital in Hawaii, it’s been unbelievable how every article throws in the fact that Rush had an addiction to painkillers in the past.

True, it may be that Rush’s recent health problem was caused by a relapse to narcotic use. I’m not saying the information is completely irrelevant.

I am saying that, boy, oh boy, I can’t remember the last time people commenting on how Favre has stepped up his game, played through pain, defied his age and so ever, ever, ever mentions or muses about the role that a “pharmaceutical assist” has played in Favre’s career over the years.

And while painkillers may have helped Favre’s game, it’s doubtful they in any way contributed positively to Rush’s. Yet, here we go, every single article on Rush mentions his past addiction, which so far has no apparent relevance to either his career or his present health status.

Not only that, but every article on the main stream media shows the fattest picture of Rush they have in their files.

I thought Rush was just as good while on large amounts of hydrocodone and oxycodone as he is now to be honest....

The Stones best works were on drugs.

It happens.

I was pretty peeved at Rush when the dope thing first hit but looking back now I was wrong.

It’s not good mind you but it wasn’t the breach I first thought it was.

Godspeed the man, there simply is no replacement. My wife shore cried up a storm last nite over this.

Btw, I know what it is like to live in pain...and I too like painkillers but one has to use good judgement.

I don’t think the painkillers helped, they’re an opiate, so he was would have been “high”, but he wouldn’t have felt the pain of his injuries.

I’m not so sure he was using Vicodan while playing, I think he was using uppers when he was playing, like a lot of players always have.

If you remember the classic “miked up” segment with him and Holmgren, Favre comes to the sideline and Holmgren says “no more rocket balls” and Brett says “I’m chinged up”, and Holmgren says “I know”.

“Chinged Up” means you’re on speed, amphetamines. Tons of football players, many starting in High School take “greenies” “black beauties” etc. to get wired for a game. Major League Baseball with it’s long season have always had players taking greenies and drinking coffee before games to stay alert and feel “up”.

Taking speed before the game and taking “Vike’s” (lol, fitting now) after the game for pain, mix in a few beers and you’re on your way to trouble. In the article it said he had a seizure and that was his wake-up call that these pills aren’t all fun and games. Some guys go their whole career doing this, it appears Brett got out of that cycle when this article came out in 1996.

That’s how a ton of young pro wrestlers die, they’re always banged up so they take prescription pain meds, muscle relaxers (Soma Coma) mix in some alcohol and you’re playing russian roulette every night.
