Readers may remember mention here, and in the work of some of my other Gun Rights Examiner colleagues (links beneath the photo), of California's AB 962. This law is designed to make purchase of ammunition that can be used in handguns (and there are very few calibers for which someone hasn't made a handgun) as difficult as possible, short of an outright ban. This, of course, was touted as a major "victory" by the Brady Campaign (and I suppose I can't argue--a defeat for liberty is a victory for the Brady Campaign).
In a more recent development, though, blogger Thirdpower points out a possibly unintended consequence of the coming (it goes into effect in February 2011) law. An online retailer of ammunition and shooting accessories, Cheaper Than Dirt, has announced that it will, as of 2011, stop selling ammo not only to private citizens in California, but to government agencies, as well, stating about the new policy that:
". . . it will apply to every individual, business, and agency in CA."

Bought stuff from them before
Good prices
Hopefully the in state firearms dealers will refuse to sell to state government agencies and employees, I know I would.
CTD has done a lot of ill advised things in the past including really torquing off it’s customer base but this is a move in the right direction.
I may have to reconsider doing business with them if they keep this kind of stuff up. Good show CTD!!!
Mike
It’s only a matter of time before Midway USA and Sportsman’s Guide follow suit.
Me too.
It’s their right to say they won’t sell to California
AT ALL.
CTD has a lot of good stuff, I’ve never bought any ammo
from them though.
Kind of funny to think legislators wrote this law and
didn’t even think that it would be applied to themselves.
More retailers should make this the reply to states that
restrict ammo sales to civilians.
t.
Yeah, not selling to the citizens, while regrettable, is understandable because of the onerous new paperwork involved. Selling to the overlords is probably no less convenient than before, but who wants to sell out the serfs for 30 pieces of silver?
This looks like a reasoned business decision rather than some strategem to get local California governments to complain on their behalf. The bureaucracy and risk involved in discerning private from government customers is past their threshold of tolerance, especially under the looie-liberal Bummer administration which will probably pile on to whatever Fornicalia does.
I’ve made several purchases from CTD, including lots of ammo, and I have never been dissatisfied.
I will never buy from anyone else. We need more Americans to stand up tall and hang a bird on the likes of the State of Mexifornia.
“That caliber (.50), due to its power, has become one of the gun haters’ favorite targets, despite no evidence of such a rifle ever being used to kill one person in the U.S.”
Almost got this guy...

Better ban dem guns! /sarc
And maybe the last conservatives will finally leave that Marxist utopia. They won’t be able to get ammo anymore.
While I respect the stand, CTD isn’t.
I prefer ammoman.com for ammo, of course, and normally patronize other sites for mags, parts, etc. All of them have much better prices.
Just my observation, of course.
In 1982, California voters rejected Prop 15, to ban handguns in California, by a 2 to 1 margin! It had been forcast to pass by that same 2 to 1 margin!
Since that time the government of Cal has worked overtime trying to find ways around the will of the people.
I think they knew. Liberals also hate police departments.
They’ve got a really bad website
Redux
ammoman.com has a really bad website design
Good show CTD. One more step would be to put any CA legislator who voted for the nazi anti-gun law on a “do not sell to” list.
And be sure to pass that list around to the other dealers.
Wonderful, more ammo for Texas.
I love these stupid laws written by stupid people.
Good deals at CtD. Gave them a lot of business last year and was studying their most recent catalog for some additional items.
