A key witness in a federal probe into passport information stolen from the State Department was fatally shot in front of a District church, the Metropolitan Police Department said yesterday.
Lt. Quarles Harris Jr., 24, who had been cooperating with a federal investigators, was found late Thursday night slumped dead inside a car, in front of the Judah House Praise Baptist Church in Northeast, said Cmdr. Michael Anzallo, head of the department’s Criminal Investigations Division.
Cmdr. Anzallo said a police officer was patrolling the neighborhood when gunshots were heard, then Lt. Harris was found dead inside the vehicle, which investigators would describe only as a blue car.
Emergency medics pronounced him dead at the scene.
City police said they do not know whether his death was a direct result of his cooperation with federal investigators.
“We don’t have any information right now that connects his murder to that case,” Cmdr. Anzallo said.
Police say a “shot spotter” device helped an officer locate Lt. Harris.
A State Department spokeswoman yesterday declined to comment, saying the investigation into the passport fraud is ongoing.
The Washington Times reported April 5 that contractors for the State Department had improperly accessed passport information for presidential candidates Sens. Hillary Rodham Clinton, Barack Obama and John McCain, which resulted in a series of firings that reached into the agency’s top ranks.
One agency employee, who was not identified in documents filed in U.S. District Court, was implicated in a credit-card fraud scheme after Lt. Harris told federal authorities he obtained “passport information from a co-conspirator who works for the U.S. Department of State
Good point about the body count already existing. But the point I quoted above is the best. They simply can't succeed in "fundamentally transforming America" without going whole hog jackboot.

Holder is holding the key position isn't he? He also has an interesting history ala Elian Gonzalez and those terrorists he helped with Presidential pardons. Then his "allegedly" unilateral decision to try GITMO detainees in Manhattan. That's probably the tip of the iceberg. Perfect position for surveillance, cleanup and info manipulation on political enemies.
No question that he's a loyal lefty willing to lay it on the line no matter how high the controversy.

I was just thinking of the utility of the AG to the WH and that Holder is somewhat capable of acting on his own. (just a guess) In contrast to Incompetano who is warming a seat in an agency that is meaningless in its redundancy. But that very fact does makes Holder more likely to see the underside of the bus. He's actually doing something.
All Janet has to do is not contradict herself in a 24 hour period. Too often. lol So it comes down to whether Eric can keep from screwing up a dirty deed before Janet has to publically explain something she has no clue about.
Holder has to rely on the performance of many subordinates. Napalireno only has to rely on her brain. I really don't want to be the bookie that sets those odds. LOL
My guess is that Holder gets the axe first over these trials to be held in NYC.
One can easily imagine an attack on NYC, after what has been happening these last few months as the pace accelerates.
It would be very possible to see another black hole in the NYC ground, and Holder being held accountable.

Thanks I was tuned in.
Mr. Hakell was on Coast-to-Coast AM tonight. He brought up the efforts to discredit his seeing this and the changing versions. He stated since they are trying to say it didn't happen, why don't they release the security footage to 'prove' it didn't.
Hmmm.....
