Stopping terror before takeoff

The Transportation Security Administra tion's move to mix up security procedures on flights is likely to hamper terrorists. But in the end, we need to stop them before they buy their plane tickets.

Terrorists want the security they face to be predictable -- and for the results of their attacks to be predictable. They rehearse, do practice runs, test security and conduct surveillance of airports and airlines. When they attack, they want the results to be successful and spectacular. They must get it right the first time. So any change in security screws them up.

For that reason, it probably makes a lot of sense that the TSA decided after the unsuccessful Christmas Day crotch-bomber incident to let the airlines mix up the security procedures on flights. On some trips, you'll have to stay in your seats. Sometimes, you won't be allowed a blanket for the baby, to use electronic games or type on your laptop. On other flights, pilots will have a whole different list of taboos.

Last week at the Nashville airport, as my wife went to the gate to collect the Grandchildren , security seized her less than 2inch long mini Swiss Army knife and made her remove her hiking boots.

She probably fit the jihadist profile,
5’2’’
Blonde hair
Blue eyes
Dutch/German ancestry
Mid 50`s
L.L. Bean overcoat.

NO BURQUA

What a puff piece to give the TSA/government cover for getting caught with it’s pants around it’s ankles and not having an idea what to do next.

Look, when someone shows up at a ticket counter and pays (1) CASH for a (2) ONE WAY TICKET and they don’t have (3) ANY CHECKED LUGGAGE don’t you think that should set some bells ringing?

How difficult would it be to have this information harvested during the ticketing process and passed along the line to all involved with security?

I would say “send in the clowns” but they are all working for the TSA!

When you return from Ireland you go thru US Customs there before the flight rather than after you have entered the US. They should do this throughout Europe for all US bound flights - but the Military should check the baggage instead of hacks.

Maybe not jihadist but I guarantee she fit the PC profile to receive equality of scrutiny!

It used to. A few years back I needed a hundred-odd miles to get to the next frequent-flier elite level. So on December 27th I bought a one-way ticket for the 28th, from the nearby major airport to one an hour and a half's drive away (this would earn me 500 miles). No luggage, since my wife would pick me up at the destination and drive me home. Last to board -- and the screen flashed red when my ticket was scanned.
