Sen. Casey abandons dad's legacy

Senator Bob Casey Jr. (D - PA), who came to office as a pro-life Democrat in 2006 under the banner that he would continue his father's fight in pro-life causes has turned out to be pretty disappointing. When asked by the Washington Times on Tuesday what he thought his father, the late Bob Casey Sr., former governor of Pennsylvania from 1987 to 1995, would think of the abortion issue in the health care bill.:

"I have no way of knowing. We’re dealing with something here which is unusual and unprecedented. We’ve had year to year appropriation bills where the Hyde amendment was attached to year by year appropriation for health and human services. We’ve never had an exchange before. Never in American history have we had to face… these kinds of questions are complicated."

It should be remembered that the Senator's father was the "Casey" in the notable 1992 Supreme Court case Planned Parenthood v. Casey. This case upheld almost all the prohibitions on abortion that he signed into law.

Like Senator Ben Nelson (D - NE) recently, Senator Casey talked about the failure of trying to pass the Nelson, Casey, Hatch Amendment, which would have given stronger pro-life language in the health care bill. However, unlike Senator Lieberman (I-CT) who threatened to not vote for cloture over the inclusion of a public option and he succeeded, Senators Nelson and Casey continue the mantra of "we at least had good intentions, but our efforts failed." Senator Casey told the Washington Times,:

Most PA residents have only a vague recollection of the brave stand that Governor Casey Sr. took in the pro-life cause. That was ancient history.

Which IIRC came with a high political price for him. Jr. wasn't willing to fight the tough fight.

He’s my congresscrtter. Sent him an email, said his father would be proud...not. His father actually had principles and stood by them. Hopefully this pencil necked wimp is out next cyle.

Yes, Gov Casey was not allowed to speak to the Democratic National Convention due to his pro-life stance.

Just another example of liberal tolerance.

What is it about babies that liberals and democrat party members hate so much?Any time they want some obscene amount of money for some statist obamanation they claim it’s for the children. Yet, the NEVER pass up a chance to make it easier to kill them. The ‘catholic’ and ‘jewish’ ones appear to be especially defensive about it, while the other self-proclaimed christians just casually defend it.

Junior has been a total phony all along. He got into office by pretending to be his father, who was a pro-life and moderate Democrat.

Junior is nothing of the sort. He has no character.

Yes, and I am unsurprised that PA voters are unable to discern the difference.

For liberals, abortion represents multiple advantages:

First, abortion is a wedge between men and women.

Second, abortion represents the culmination of the 'free love' movement.

Third, abortion is population control as it is mostly employed by minorities and by elites who do not want bastards....exactly the people liberals would like to limit.

Fourth, abortion helps deconstruct a society based on the religious principle of "life is sacred".

Finally, abortion removes any responsibility from consenting adults, which furthers the liberal agenda of replacing personal responsibility with big government.
