Standardization is a wise move in my opinion.
It would eliminate only part of the range issue though, in that you wouldn’t want to have to stop every 75 to 100 miles. Like you say, a quick swap-out would be a superior way to manage the packs. It would also allow for recycling from the station rather than from each individual person.
Recycling trucks could stop by the station delivering new packs, and picking up ones that were unable to hold sufficient charge any longer.
This would also bring back the service station attendant. They might actually do more than swap out the batteries too, say wash the windshield, dust off the wife etc. ;-)
Still, a home charge would be a good feature, for day to day operation. The station would help out on longer trips.
I think I prefer my Hubby’s 550i. It’s loads of fun to drive, a V8 with 360 horses.
Unless that magic car gets energy dierctly from the sun without any intervening pollution generating device(s), I claim Bullshit.*
