The most memorable moment for local talk show host Fred Honsberger involved an elderly woman named Grace, Hillary Clinton and a turkey gobble. It was around Thanksgiving, and Honsberger had decided to give away turkeys to his KDKA listeners by playing turkey-gobble sound bites between calls. When caller Grace decided to begin a tirade about how the conservative Honsberger should lay off his criticisms of then-First Lady Hillary Clinton, he inserted a gobble sound into her diatribe.
After only a brief pause, she continued with her "blah, blah, blah," Honsberger said, so he played the gobble again. Her response: "I heard it the first time. I don't want your damn turkey, and you know what you can do with it."
It's moments like these that have made Honsberger one of the most recognized local radio personalities. And it's moments like these that help win awards.
Recently, Honsberger added one more award to his growing list: being named one of the 100 most important radio talk show hosts in the nation by Talkers Magazine.
