A "GENERATIONAL shift" has pushed demand for cocaine to unprecedented levels, giving Australia the dubious honour of being the world's most lucrative market for the illicit drug.
International drug cartels are specifically targeting Australia, where a kilo of the drug now fetches $190,000.
An internal report by the Australian Federal Police has warned that international drug cartels are now specifically targeting Australia for cocaine shipments.
Seizures of the drug have grown by 20 per cent since 2003.
In the US a kilo of cocaine is worth $30,000 to $35,000.
The high Australian street value has sparked increased interest from overseas crime syndicates, a confidential internal report by the Australian Federal Police has warned.

More coke is heading for the island continent Down Under. I wonder how the coke cartels are going to send in their shipments undetected by Australian customs and Federal Police (I know they're damn good at detecting elaborately concealed drug shipments).
Maybe the drug cartels would send in the coke by minisub, carried by a mother ship such as a freighter.
Here's my theory on how coke could be smuggled:
At sunset, the freighter loads up the minisub with the coke shipment, and after that, the minusub sails out from under the mothership toward a harbor, into a river, and at a rendezvous point with a local drug gang.
The minisub would surface, offload the coke shipment, take aboard a ton of drug money revenue, submerge and carefully return to the freighter.
Do Aussies think coke is more fun than Americans do?
Heh... sounds like a problem Crocodile Dundee could deal with.
Seriously, coke is not a fun drug. The coke cartels are coming to Oz simply because the price of coke is high, and it will be lucrative for the cartels who profit off the suffering of others.
How does a generational shift make people do drugs??
The same way hockey sticks cause global warming.
Y'see.
I read your link to the effects of coke - a clinical statement of facts. I don't disagree with the list.
But I can tell you from experience that coke is very much a fun drug. It makes you feel terrific. That is precisely why people buy it, use it, & risk jail for doing so. Its popularity in OZ is the reason the price is so high. High demand, high price.
Coke is primarily a rich man's party drug. Very expensive way to get a buzz. Poor people can get high/stay high much cheaper on stolen pharmaceutical drugs or crap like meth. The coke cartels are making their profits off of doctors, lawyers, bankers, celebrities, pro athletes, & the like. Basically, the ruling class & its entourage.
When you say coke (or any other abused drug) is not fun, you are not telling the truth, & most everyone else knows it. Abusers, then, turn off to the idea of abstention because they suspect you are lying about the consequences of drug abuse. Children especially, sensing they are being deceived, will ignore even the poison warnings on household chemicals. The kid next door to me died huffing PAM, the grease in a spray can. This is not abuse, it is ignorance.
The reason not to abuse drugs is because they can easily injure or kill you; & will ruin your life financially, emotionally, & legally. The most abused drug, alcohol, has certainly proved that.
