HARTFORD, Conn.Hartford Police Chief Daryl Roberts says the city is a bit safer after citizens turned in 78 unwanted firearms during a gun buy-back program last weekend.
Police say people turned in handguns, rifles, numerous rounds of ammunition and gun magazines. All the weapons will be destroyed, unless forensic tests show they were used in crimes.
The program offered a $75 gift card for a semiautomatic weapon, $50 gift card for a revolver and a $25 gift card for a shotgun or rifle.
It was a joint effort by police, Hartford Hospital, St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center, Connecticut Children's Medical Center and the Community Renewal Team.

If removing 78 guns from the city streets makes the place a bit safer, the millions of extra guns Americans have bought since Obama was elected, should have killed off half our population by now.
I'll double all those prices, sell em to me instead.
“I’ll double all those prices, sell em to me instead.”
Nah, you might turn into a criminal if you own guns...
Robbing, carjacking, raping, etc., has gotten a lot easier thanks to the Hartford Police.
Less guns owned by law abiding citizens make it safer for criminals to act.
“A fool and his money are soon parted”!
Only 78? It appears that the city has already been saturated with fatherlessness by the feminist divorce/cohabitation industry, and there aren’t enough freshly divorced/separated women for the city to grab as many as in the past.
I wish some idiot liberal community would do a $5,000 gun buyback program.
I hear ya. I’ve been wanting a shotgun for a while now. I’ll gladly top the $25 offer the Hartford P.D. is giving out.
“Hartford Police Chief Daryl Roberts says the city is a bit safer after citizens turned in 78 unwanted firearms during a gun buy-back program last weekend.”
Daryl Roberts is probably eyeing a political career. Law abiding citizens turning in old beaters makes no one safer; indeed, it could be said it makes those turning in their defensive weapons LESS safe than before. But, of course, our Government Masters never decline an opportunity to waste taxpayer’s money.

Or they turn out to be valuable antiques, in which case look for them to ‘disappear’ from police department lockups.
I’d be willing to wager less than 20 of those firearms were actually serviceable.
Unmaintained weaponry turns into iron oxide real quickly in the Conn. climate. Most likely a lot of scrap metal was turned in, IMHO.
“$50 gift card for a revolver...”
BAHAHA! I could sell a revolver on EBAY for five times that price.
man.. every time I hear about these gun buybacks its always $50-100 per firearm... half of them might not work, but I bet it’d be worth it to host my own private gun buyback program :)
Ebay doesn’t allow the sale of guns on their site. You will have to go to Guntrader.com or one of the similar sites.
