National Review ^ | 8 December 2009 | Mark Steyn

Posted on 12/07/2009 9:42:05 PM PST by JLS

As longtime readers know, the Demographic Deathwatch is not a novelty dance craze but a recurring feature of this column. But it’s not just for Europe, Russia, China, and Japan anymore! Some parts of America are acquiring demographic profiles that would qualify them for EU membership.

I spent a lot of time in Vermont in the 60’s and early 70’s, it was NH with taxes. You could drink and drive, but you had to go to Littleton, NH for beer on Sundays.

Guns everyone had one or twelve, the place was great. In 1970 the hippies built a commune in Island Pond and the State went down the outhouse.

Vermont is a piece of stagnant garbage. Least religious state in the union. Least family friendly state. One of the most heavily taxed.

Very little good about the state aside from the natural beauty. And the perverts, hippies, and faux-swank little urbanites with their little village dreams have all but ransacked the historical beauty and significance of the place by distoring their significance.

It’s a pretty exterior all but ruined by its inhabitants.

Don’t worry. Once the hippies ruin Vermont they will move to other states and ruin them too. They are a cancer.

“Which is to say that Vermont, literally, has no future.”
Good riddance.

When he ran for president, Howard Dean was said to have inspired America’s youth. In Vermont, he mainly inspired them to move somewhere else. The number of young adults fell by 20 percent during the Dean years. And what’s left is a demographic disaster: The state’s women have the second lowest birthrate in the nation, and the state’s workforce is already America’s oldest.

To hell with the libs.....

This is already. Part of the problem, notice I wrote ‘part’, with New Hampshires shift to the Left is the migration of the dope smoking diaspora over the river from VT into NH.

Vermont is the way liberals think America ought to be, and you can’t make a living in it.

To an extent, however, THEY can. There are still jobs for politicians, bureaucrats, activists and tenured faculty. A liberal's dreamland.

“In European terms, homosexuals are Vermont’s Muslims”

heh, heh.

The brilliant Steyn manages to crawl under the skin of both demos.
