The headline is 北朝鮮デノミ:「住民騒乱を懸念、軍が戦闘準備」 ("North Korean Currency Devaluation: Worries Over Uprising By North Korean People; North Korean Army Goes on Sub-War Status")

Your army is tied up in Iraq and the war did not go the way the neocons anticipated, and you want GWB go after North Korea??!!

Absolutely. We had more than enough military resources to kick Kim Jong Il's ass, destroy his nuclear program and probably ignite a popular uprising against his regime, if GWB had possessed the stones necessary to do it.

how are we going to take on the North Koreans???!!!

With air and naval power for starters. You sound hysterical with all those exclamation points and question marks, you need to calm down Friend.

China who does not want a US ally up on her border (via a unified Korea dominated by South Korea

The fact is, Communist China and South Korea get along just fine. I daresay that Beijing gets along BETTER with Seoul than with Pyongyang because South Korea doesn't continuously have it's hand out begging for help, plus South Korea poses no threat to the Chinese, Seoul's domestic and international conduct is stable and non-aggressive.

Had GWB taken out the Asian leg of that 'Axis of Evil' he was so concerned about, we wouldn't even be having this discussion. Once again, "talked the talk, but couldn't walk the walk."

FDR, as a Navy man (Asst. Secy of the Navy), I think he would be quite the sonofab*tch to do that in advance to all those boys on the USS Arizona and the other Navy boys there that day at Pearl. I would find it unfathomable for a man with a Navy past to know to that detail in advance and allow it. But, it has always been a historic contention, hasn’t it?

Apologies just now to bring up the Pearl Harbor thing, I dont want the thread to wander, so let us just leave it at that, and I will start a thread somewhere about “FDR Knew?” and cover it there. Lets get back to North Korea. Sorry. My bad.

A few BLU-109/113’s right smack into his bunker at the side of Mt. Baekdu where the little rat went underground for 40 days during the Iraq War, would have done the trick. One kaboom to make the initial crater, and two or three more laser guided into that crater to implode the bunker completely and really rock the Chia Pet’s world. No more Kim Jong-il. Armchair analysis of course, but completely do-able in my opinion, at that time, without a massive commitment of US ground troops to assault the north.

You are correct, it will be difficult finding people who have the courage to think for themselves. How would it be possible to overcome so many “decades” of brainwashing?
Who would be capable of running the country? The problems would be unlike we or any other nation has dealt with were help to come to these people. Mindboggling.

Hopefully S. Korea would step up in a big way.

Forced Equality Trumpeted by State Media

By Jung Kwon Ho
[2009-12-07 17:34 ]

Shenyang, China — North Korea’s currency redenomination may have been completed on the 6th, but now the authorities have started on a propaganda campaign based on the notion that “Redenomination is the moment to start the socialist strong and prosperous state.”

A source from North Pyongan Province reported on Sunday, “The authorities have been claiming, ‘Redenomination is a great socialist reform for the workers and farmers,’ through local third broadcasting and mobile speaker vans, and workers have received a decree ordering them to study state editorials and organize discussion and interpretation groups.”

Another source, this one from Yangkang Province, told The Daily NK that third broadcasting had put out a program called “The door to the strong and prosperous state has opened thanks to redenomination,” and confirmed, “My work place has also received a decree ordering us to listen to broadcasts and hold discussions.”

Lectures and conferences in factories and Party sub-organizations seem set to be held on the 7th.

The third broadcasting editorial apparently started with the line, “Now is the time when we are reaching the highest peak of the Kim Jong Il period that we are so much looking forward to.” It continued, “We have developed our unfailing strength, through which we can win any battle against any enemy, due to economic development in an ideologically strong state.”

It continued, “Our people have suffered from famine due to natural disaster and imperialist anti-republic maneuvers and irrational residents’ attempted activities to gain not social and national benefit, but private benefit.”

“This phenomenon has been generated temporarily during the completion of our socialist country, and the Party and the Fatherland have been getting through these difficulties on the principle of putting the priority on the people’s convenience.”

It assessed that, “This redenomination is a normal measure by the state to run the people’s economy smoothly by realizing equality in people’s material and cultural lives. Through the circulation of the new denominations, our fatherland has taken an opportunity to open the door to the socialist strong and prosperous state.”

Thanks for posting.

I read that and immediately my thoughts turned the U.S., asking if we are really that far behind...the "CHANGE" is happening so fast my head is spinning (Cloward & Piven)? Is the devaluation of our dollar that far behind? Will our dollar be replaced with a universal dollar and what we carry now, worth nothing? Will Americans react similarly? Will our government and military act similarly? Will it all be reported similarly? With one exception, our media seems, on the whole, to stand in support of whatever Obama does and it seems, on the whole, to ignore what Obama does not want focused on. Will we, at some point, have to rely on some kind of risky underground means of communicating? A year ago I would have laughed at the notion of such things in the States. Not so much any more.

uprising growing in North Korean over the recent devaluation of the NK currency

It has value?

All hail Communism.

The Korean people are some of the most intelligent on the planet. The South Korean are #2 in the entire globe, and the North Koreans are the same people.

IQ and the Wealth of Nations.

Communism destroyed them. North Korea should be one of the richest nation's on earth.

But - you know all of this of course. Not trying to preach to the choir, but it is such a tragedy, isn't it?

The military could run the country but that wouldnt be a good thing.

The South Koreans would love to step up. As long as the North Koreans don’t actually attack them. Any major conflict and the south will cut the ties.

IMO the strength of the South Koreans is their willingness to work hard. Education is held in very high regard.

Socialism is working hard to break this though.

They are up to their beligerent selves again.

This, taken at the DMZ, just about five days ago.

Gee, I wonder if any particular American President projecting an image of weakness gives them encouragement they can get away with anything these days.

I understand that there are folks in harm’s way but that doesn’t mean that W could have any significant effect on salvaging NK from degradation.

We are not able nor required to save the whales, much less the world.

Your ‘armchair analysis’ in my not-so-humble opinion is absolutely bang on. We could have decapitated the leadership in North Korea any time we wanted to.

What was lacking was the political will and the ‘nads to back up that will.

The sad part is that is not how China views South Korea, unless the US pulls out of the peninsula if the two Koreas unite. A unified Korea does not guarantee US pullout unless the US declares the intent. Right now the US will not give up the option to be present in Korea after they reunite, thus China will continue to prop up the North as a buffer zone against Japan and US.
Finally we do not have enough assets at the time when we were in Iraq to take on NK, unless you make the assumption the war in NK will go smoothly like we ASSUMED in Iraq. We are not going to control the NK territory unless US and SK troops move in when NK collapses. Problem is the Chinese will also move in. Today there are 4 reinforced PLA mech divisions on the NK Chinese border, something that never existed 5 years ago. Why do you think they are there? China has plans also if NK destabilizes, they will move in and the 4 mech divisions are the vanguard to a larger PLA force. So if we attacked NK and assume we can collapse it from the air bombardment, I say be careful on your assumptions. If the PLA moves in from the north and we with SK move in from the south, we will just end up with a divided Korean pensisula with different demarcation lines. Once China takes the NK, it will never be relinquished for a long long time.
