The head of the Secret Service accepted full responsibility Thursday for last week's security breach at President Barack Obama's first state dinner, but he said that the president and Vice President Joe Biden were never in danger from a party-crashing couple who shook hands and posed for pictures with them.

Secret Service Director Mark Sullivan told the House Homeland Security Committee that his agents were at fault for allowing uninvited Washington socialites Tareq and Michaele Salahi into a lavish state dinner for Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Sullivan told the committee that three uniformed agents had been put on administrative leave in the wake of the incident.

Something tells me the Salahis have ties to somebody in the WH. Just a hunch.

"The family has been trying to sell the business because, his parents said, Tareq ran it into the ground, piling up as many as 50 creditors and almost $1 million in debt while he was its president.

Among its creditors are the Washington Redskins, for whom Michaele used to be a cheerleader. The couple owes the team $224,000 for season tickets. They also had a $57,000 Carver Mariner yacht, an $80,000 Aston Martin and an Audi that were repossessed.

There is also a $3.5 million fraud suit against the company, plus hundreds of thousands of dollars in credit-card debt and legal fees.

A catering company has sued Tareq Salahi for more than $300,000, claiming he never paid the bill for food for a polo-charity event.

Meanwhile, a purported nonprofit run by the Salahis -- Journey for a Cure, which has claimed to raise millions for research on multiple sclerosis -- was flagged in May by Virginia consumer-affairs officials for failing to apply for tax-exempt status.

Grifters, looters, con artists.

Why was the woman in this situation dressed in Indian garb if she wasn’t invited? She looked all prepped & ready. How could they have just shown up? Were there not seats at the dinner? Did they have to eat in the kitchen? Was there not enough food?

These people had to be walked through.

Now, why would it be important to take out 2 agents and a supervisor? WHO WOULD REPLACE THEM? Black Panthers?

However, several committee members said it was unfair for the Secret Service to take full blame for the party-crashers, and that they thought that Sullivan was falling on his sword for the White House.

Count me in that camp.

I am just tickled we found someone to blame other than the real person who is to blame. I hope they made this guy a good deal. Things are getting expensive out there.

As much as I loathe 0bama this incident needs to be investigated thoroughly. Either of the party crashers could have been carrying a nerve or bio agent on their hands in order to assassinate our president with a handshake.

The Secret Service has both uniformed and plainclothes divisions.

"The Secret Service has both uniformed and plainclothes divisions."

I'd guess that one division is not as secret as the other.

That’s a very good question.

The head of the Secret Service accepted full responsibility

Government speak that actually means he takes no responsibility, will not be fired, and will likely receive a pay raise.

He’s more responsible than the WH. Of course, Obama could have staged this to distract us.

When Obama was campaigning, some of his security was handled by NOI people (Nation of Islam). Their security branch is called the Fruit of Islam, IIRC (no snickering, please).
