Also some discussion on the Virginia page about differing strengths of the candidates. All three of them are strong with varied backgrounds with something to contribute. Shame they can’t each win.

I received the following yesterday from a solid GOP conservative:

It's so appalling and repulsive ... her brazen actions go against every fiber of our being and that's why we are so offended by her outrageous arrogance and self-centered efforts and OUTRIGHT LIES-YES-LIES, just to get where SHE wants to be (that is, a stepping stone to become VA's first female governor-that's her sole ambition) .. again, she could care less about us - it's ALL about HER. She is a WASHINGTON-ITE - IS THAT WHAT WE WANT? - NOT I. I don't want their/her ilk in our VA politics/government. Although Nance has not been so obnoxious, rest assured HE IS NO BETTER.

It is utterly appalling that NEITHER found it important enough to be at the May Convention to vote for our state ticket, to be out there working their hearts out for our excellent candidates, state wide AND local, year in, year out. BUT NOW try to imply/convince us that they are life long, hard working conservatives. NEITHER has even bothered to VOTE (oops-Nance voted in a Dem Primary). THEY ARE RHINOS - make no mistake about it. THEY INSULT MY INTELLIGENCE. There is one person - and one person only - who can stand tall in the shoes of Cuccinelli, and thank God we know and understand that.

I just pray that the majority of our grassroots and conservative voters have not lost their senses, gotten "hoodwinked", but REMEMBER again, ALL that Steve has DONE for us, BEEN there for us, STOOD for us, FOUGHT for us, BEEN ONE of us, been EVERYWHERE in support of our conservative causes and our candidates, CARES Deeply for us, for Fairfax County, for the 37th District and for Virginia - that's where HIS HEART IS. Dear God, what more can we ask of a candidate?? I am so sick of Obama-ite hope and change mentality .. haven't we seen ENOUGH, learned our lesson??? I am also sick of the "establishment" - THEY defeat and undermine our conservative cause. I've always said "Beware of the Packaging - you won't like what's inside" - this campaign could not be more true of that. Can we not honor Reagan's 11th Rule .. NOW.

DON'T come to me after the election, and tell me I have to support a phony RHINO, on the grounds of Reagan's 11th Rule). WE lose BIG, if Steve does not win this. I DETEST ANYONE TRYING TO BUY A SEAT...Horinko is sinking several hundred thousand $$ into this race - probably more. Word is, she's paying her Campaign Manager $7K/mo - that is OUTRAGEOUS. She also BRAGS about her Campaign HQS - that she's the only one with a HQS - wellllll, ya, that's probably true!!! ... in this time of difficult economy, why on earth do we want our candidates flaunting the $$. *** FLASH!! - Cuccinelli worked out of his HOME!!! He was frugal with money - he made every penny an important decision.*** THIS is how Steve will serve. SHE IS NO CUCCINELLI.

I am also personally so distressed that the one time I so need to be out there door-to-door, phone calling, etc., but can't because of my current work demands. It's painful.

Oh yes, I got one last (hopefully) EXPENSIVE GLOSSY flier, with her unattractive mug (I swear the campaign could do better - but maybe not!! ... she looks HALF AWAKE!!-pathetic) .. THAT should be an Omen in itself for us as to how she will serve as our Senator ... ohhh no - she is NO Cuccinelli.

I pray we all weigh our vote heavily tomorrow. Please tell everyone you know to think about the consequences of their vote ... it DOES matter, and then go out and VOTE!!

God Bless~XXX (I stand behind what I say, and consequently have no problem with forwarding this to anyone and everyone in hopes of helping them understand the importance of this vote tomorrow.)

Jan. 12 Va. Senate elections to fill Cuccinelli, Stolle seats

Special elections for two open seats in the Virginia Senate will be held January 12.

The seats are currently occupied by Republicans — Sen. Ken Cuccinelli of Fairfax County, who serves the 37th Senatorial District, and Kenneth W. Stolle of Virginia Beach, who represents the 8th Senatorial District.

Last month Cuccinelli won election as Virginia’s attorney general; Stolle, a former law-enforcement officer, was elected sheriff of Virginia Beach.

Late tonight Steve Hunt won the Republican nomination in the 37th Senatorial District over Marianne Horinko and Will Nance. Each candidate ran a great race and should be proud of their individual efforts despite the results.
Now it is time to unite behind Steve and keep this seat Republican! The special election is set for Tuesday, January 12th. More details to follow on how you can help Steve win this important special election.

Four big “thank yous” to give out tonight:

# 1 The turnout was incredible (1903 total voters). To everyone who voted... your commitment and dedication to your candidate and to the Republican Party is inspiring. Thank you.

I was near the end of the line to vote tonight. There was still about 300 people in line at 10 PM, and everyone in line was allowed to vote.

Circled back a little later and found out that Steve Hunt won the three way race with a little over half of the votes. Largest turnout for a primary in this district.

It’s great to see the Republicans and conservatives so energized. Nice community organizing!

“Now it is time to unite behind Steve and keep this seat Republican!”

You said it, HokieMom. I’ve heard that the Republicans have only a slight majority in the Senate, and every vote seems more important since special elections tend to have smaller turnouts.

People can check to verify if their voting precinct is in the 37th district at the link below... and then write “Remember to vote Jan 12” at the bottom of this months calendar.

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately, I have no relatives in either district. My family is currently in Henrico Co.
