(Dec. 1) – Rogues, it seems, will be rogues: As she promotes her new book with an equally hyped down-home bus tour, former vice presidential candidate and Alaska governor Sarah Palin has been jetting to some stops on a Gulfstream II private jet, which rents for $4,000 an hour.
According to the blog Palingates, which first reported the story, Palin took the plane on Nov. 21, 23 and 25 between book tour stops in Rochester, N.Y., Roanoke, Va., Fort Bragg, N.C., Birmingham, Ala., and Orlando, Fla. On Nov. 25, she then flew to Pasco, Wash., for Thanksgiving and was met at the airport by a bevy of journalists who filmed the landing.
Larger media outlets have since played up the apparent bait-and-switch. This morning on ABC's Good Morning America, Diane Sawyer introduced a segment on Palin's private-jet use by saying that Palin "frequently can be seen photographed in front of the bus that she took on the road. But ... you don't often see photos of her in front of a very expensive private plane she's been taking." Correspondent David Wright then noted that Palin was traveling in style even as "her fans camped out in the bitter cold, just for the chance to meet her."

As hard as I try, cannot understand why they think Sarah using a private jet is a scandal. She is making money and paying for her own travel, why would her choice of transport interest anyone? Wow, I guess John Edwards was right, there are two Americas; Normal America, and then those other people we have to carry.
Maybe the press could investigate someone who is haranguing us about excess fuel usage while flying on his Gulfstream to global warming events... no, that would hit a liberal, so let’s hammer on a successful author who is using either her own or her publisher’s money for a promotional tour.
And somewhere in book publishing land, somebody said, "see, in addition to getting her to ten more bookstores in the same number of days, the copycats of the state-run-media are giving us free advertising from one end of the echo chamber to the other!"

Nancy Pelousy takes a GOVERNMNET jet that costs US $30,000 and hour to operate and that is okay.
Obama goes to China with SEVENTY ONE vehicles in his little parade (all shipped there via US government jets at the taxpayer’s expense on probably half a dozen jets) costing untold MILLIONS of dollars and the left doesn’t whisper a word.
Meechelle takes a GOVERNMENT jet to Copenhagen FOR PERSONAL REASONS costing the US taxpayers about $5 MILLION and all the liberals can do is swoon over her man feet.
Yet Palin pay $4000 an hour OUT OF HER OWN POCKET and the loonies are outraged!

They're trying to separate Sarah from the "little people" who think of Sarah as "one of them". Yet no mention of Al Bore the hypocrite who flies around constantly burning the jet fuel he says is the biggest evil on the face of the earth.
This will backfire. The "little people" are enjoying watching Sarah succeed and understand that flying in a private jet helps her to do so.
Er, because she gives the misleading impression of being on a "bus tour" (i.e. of acting like regular folks rather than part of the elite establishment).

To drive his class warfare point home, Wright derided, "Keep in mind, this is the same former Alaska governor who famously got rid of the governor's jet." It was only at the end of the segment that Wright admitted, "But, one company representative told Good Morning America, Harper Collins paid the tab for the jet. And that Palin took it only for three legs of the journey, when it was logistically necessary."
Did it occur to these morons that Sarah’s publisher is probably paying for this? And that it allows her to make more appearances?
