Peggy Noonan: He Can't Take Another Bow (Beltway Types Realizing Obama Is Just An Empty Suit)
Wall Street Journal ^ | 11/30/09

Posted on 11/30/2009 1:48:27 PM PST by caddystacks

From journalist Elizabeth Drew, a veteran and often sympathetic chronicler of Democratic figures, a fiery denunciation of—and warning for—the White House. In a piece in Politico on the firing of White House counsel Greg Craig, Ms. Drew reports that while the president was in Asia last week, "a critical mass of influential people who once held big hopes for his presidency began to wonder whether they had misjudged the man." They once held "an unromantically high opinion of Obama," and were key to his rise, but now they are concluding that the president isn't "the person of integrity or even classiness they had thought."

Just as stinging as Elizabeth Drew on domestic matters was Leslie Gelb on Mr. Obama and foreign policy in the Daily Beast. Mr. Gelb, president emeritus of the Council on Foreign Relations and fully plugged into the Democratic foreign-policy establishment, wrote this week that the president's Asia trip suggested "a disturbing amateurishness in managing America's power." The president's Afghanistan review has been "inexcusably clumsy," Mideast negotiations have been "fumbling." So unsuccessful was the trip that Mr. Gelb suggested Mr. Obama take responsibility for it "as President Kennedy did after the Bay of Pigs."

He added that rather than bowing to emperors—Mr. Obama "seems to do this stuff spontaneously and inexplicably"—he should begin to bow to "the voices of experience" in Washington.

When longtime political observers start calling for wise men, a president is in trouble.

also raises a distressing question: Who are the wise men and women now?

Right on. None so blind as those that would not see - even when we were screaming at the top of our lungs to look at this and that.

Peggy, what’s your problem? You are the one who had the schoolgirl crush on 0bama. Couldn’t you see these types of problems with him then?

Shut the heck up, Ms. Noonan.

Ditto’s This is the truest of statements...the Washington elite are mad because he has done to little to move left, not the anger we conservatives hate about his Marxist regime...if he is not smart enough, to hell with it he has many smart by hate leftist that could care less about his popularity if they get the power to expand their form of communism!

For us the distrust by both sides on left and right has allowed the independents, and fence sitters to move in our direction!!! they fear us getting our act together, and standing up with facts, and the truth about Conservative Policies, and why it is a Positive force for good, and will bring the best to all peoples, the Rich, are the leftist elities, not the conservatives!!! The dims are the greedy bastards! they know it! the Wallstreet of today are the thieves of wealth by the very policies they lobbied for with the dims! The good guys are just now seeing that to be silent is to give succor to the enemy of Freedom!

Yeah, well, until they start saying that George W. Bush was better at this than Obama, I won’t believe they’ve learned anything.

What happened to that Harvard sophistication the Vichy Republicans
were all so impressed by last year? Did it disappear with his birth certificate,
college thesis, and transcripts?

She was openly for The One and tried to bash anyone who suggested that Barry would be the flippin socialist that he is.

Where? I just re-read her columns preceding the election and it doesn't seem that way.

You nailed it. This is all intentional.

David Gergen is so lukewarm he reminds me of vomit. God says, “you are either HOT or COLD, otherwise I will spit you out of my mouth as vomit”. I cannot stand these talking heads that talk and say nothing of any significance at all. Gergen is a major one. If he’s working for a demonRAT or a Republican, he’s jus the same. A complete NOTHING. CO

Agreed. It was a joke. Gergen signed on to the Clinton presidency because he didn’t want to have another “failed presidency”. He’s a buffoon

A question from the back of the class, Mz. Noonan.

During the 2008 campaign you repeatedly mocked Sarah Palin for being inexperienced, naive, an embarrassment, etc.

Looking back on Ubama's first 10 months in office, can you imagine Sarah Palin being anywhere near as inept, indecisive and embarrassing as Premier Ubama?

And a follow-up question if you don't mind. Do you really think I give a flying fig what you think?

Funny how we mere amateurs and observers of the political scene knew this was coming. Many of us predicted things would turn out just as they have. Unfortunately it’s only going to get worse. But this elite “political class” that was totally duped by the big zer0 is now having to admit they were wrong. How could they have not seen it coming?! Unreal.

She did well with this one. Perhaps she's starting to see beyond the glitz and glitter that is Barack Hussein Obama.

It was almost too easy to predict how his presidency would be. It was also laughable to hear so many people who claimed to be Republicans either endorsing or at least having favorable things to say about 0 because they thought Bush had let them down. A lot actually thought the Dems would get spending under control. LOL! They thought Bush and the GOP spent too much, so for spite the endorsed B0 and went towards the other extreme. Brilliant move. Now they are seeing how wrong they were, but anyone with an ounce of brains would have known.
