Global Warming E-Mails Scandal Show Scientists May Have Cooked the Facts
U.S.News & World Report ^ | November 30, 2009 | Peter Roff

Posted on 11/30/2009 1:11:15 PM PST by ricks_place

It is starting to look like President Barack Obama, aided and abetted by former Vice President Al Gore, Sens. Barbara Boxer, and John F. Kerry and others, may have lied this nation into a war against man-made global warming.

Preliminary analysis of the contents of thousands of E-mails and documents taken from the computer archives of the Climate Research Unit at England's University of East Anglia—possibly by a hacker, possibly by a whistleblower—indicate a number of the world's most important scientists engaged in research designed to prove that global warming really does exist may have been cooking the books.

As columnist Michael Barone wrote in Sunday's Washington Examiner, "The CRU has been a major source of data on global temperatures, relied on by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. But the e-mails suggest that CRU scientists have been suppressing and misstating data and working to prevent the publication of conflicting views in peer-reviewed science periodicals."

If true, the cooking of the temperature data to provide support for the idea that man-made global warming is occurring is a scandal of most serious proportions. It should force policymakers to reconsider the role science plays in the formulation of policy if its conclusions can be manipulated the way those concerning climate change now appear to have been.

They didn't cook anything...It's been right there in front of anybody with an open mind. Once it became a political movement, facts were no longer necessary.

A month ago, a story like this would have been met with disbelief, followed by partying. Now it’s just another in a growing body of work about this fraud.

The global warmists at the center of this are ruined. There is a coalition forming against this: real scientists that no longer will be cowed, logical people, those that distrust officialdom, and the 5-10% that think that life is a conspiracy anyway. Soon it will be the dominant conventional wisdom that AGW is bull, and any attempt to resurrect it with assurances of “peer review” will be DOA.

Global Warming E-Mails Scandal Show Scientists May Have Cooked the Facts

Aren't these the same slime sucking scum bags who said we were heading for another ice age, some 30 years ago? An ice age did not work, so maybe they decided to change their tactics and try global warming. I do not believe in conspiracy theories much, but I think the global warming lie is a huge conspiracy.

Probably the fairest article to come out of the MSM yet.

This is big.

Judging by one of the comments to the source article, I’d say we have a long way to go to stop this madness. The comment basically says, “yes its a lie, but I still believe it, and I’m mad at the people that don’t believe it.”

Hey, at least it’s a crack in the MSM embargo.

The MSM prefers to dribble out details rather than opening the floodgates. Look how well it worked when the Clinton team leaked information from the trial and then blamed Ken Starr.

If the public had been hit with all of the information at once, there would have been more outrage.

So these are "stolen emails" from "some hacker" even though the whistleblower attempted to give them to the BBC months ago and they declined the revelation.

Give the press some Pentagon papers and there is no such policy against the manner in which they were obtained or the value of the materials to national security.

The only questions are how high up does this corruption go and if Bernie Madoff got LIFE, what punishment should Al Gore and his crooked cronies receive for their bogus investment plan.

25 years ago Ted Danson said that our oceans would be dead within 20 years. He now claims it was just “hyperbole” to get peoples’ attention.

These greenie weenie Gaia cultists can worship however they wish and wipe with one finger and an old rag if they want. But they CANNOT infringe on my own personal liberties and freedoms and CANNOT indoctrinate the world’s youth in their cult at taxpayer expense and CANNOT force me to tithe to pay indulgences for my “sins”.

But it seems like IPCC’s biggest concern is how the email servers got hacked, not about the content of the email or the possibility that AGW is more of a hoax.

” I do not believe in conspiracy theories much, but I think the global warming lie is a huge conspiracy. “

Try this on for size;

“November 29, 2009
Flashback: Wegman report

“In our further exploration of the social network of authorships in temperature reconstruction, we found that at least 43 authors have direct ties to Dr. Mann by virtue of coauthored papers with him. Our findings from this analysis suggest that authors in the area of paleoclimate studies are closely connected and thus ‘independent studies’ may not be as independent as they might appear on the surface. ...

It is important to note the isolation of the paleoclimate community; even though they rely heavily on statistical methods they do not seem to be interacting with the statistical community. Additionally, we judge that the sharing of research materials, data and results was haphazardly and grudgingly done. In this case we judge that there was too much reliance on peer review, which was not necessarily independent. Moreover, the work has been sufficiently politicized that this community can hardly reassess their public positions without losing credibility. ...

The block (cluster) structure is very clear. Michael Mann is a co-author with every one of the other 42. The black squares on the diagonal indicate that the investigators work closely within their group, but not so extensively outside of their group. ... However, it is immediately clear that the Mann, Rutherford, Jones, Osborn, Briffa, Bradley and Hughes form a clique, each interacting with all of the others. A clique is a fully connected subgraph, meaning everyone in the clique interacts with every one else in the clique. ...

The cliques are very clear in this layout. In addition to the Mann-Rutherford-Jones-Osborn-Briffa-Bradley-Hughes clique there are several others that are readily apparent. They are Rind-Shindell-Schmidt-Miller, Cook-D’Arrigo-Jacoby-Wilson, Folland-Vellinga-Allan-Knight, Stahle-Shugart-Therrell-Druckenbrod-Cleveland, Sangoyomi-Moon-Lall-Abarbanel, and Clement-Zebiak-Cane. The last cluster is somewhat of the miscellaneous cluster of people who had published with Michael Mann, but not much if at all with each other. ...

The social network analysis of authors’ relations suggests that the “independent reconstructions” are not as independent as one might guess. Indeed, the matrix outlined in Figure 5.8 illustrates the proxies that are used more than one time in twelve major temperature reconstruction papers. The black boxes indicate that the proxy was used in a given paper. It is clear that many of the proxies are re-used in most of the papers. It is not surprising that the papers would obtain similar results and so cannot really claim to be independent verifications. ...

As statisticians, we were struck by the isolation of communities such as the paleoclimate community that rely heavily on statistical methods, yet do not seem to be interacting with the mainstream statistical community. The public policy implications of this debate are financially staggering and yet apparently no independent statistical expertise was sought or used.” “AD HOC COMMITTEE REPORT ON THE ‘HOCKEY STICK’ GLOBAL CLIMATE RECONSTRUCTION”
