Cuba conducts war games with U.S. invasion in mind

Cuba began its biggest military maneuvers in five years on Thursday, saying they were needed to prepare for a possible invasion by the United States.

Despite a thaw in U.S.-Cuba relations and assurances last week by President Barack Obama that the United States has no intention of invading the island 90 miles from Florida, Cuba's state-run press quoted military leaders as saying there "exists a real possibility of a military aggression against Cuba."

The war games, which are being called "Bastion 2009," also will get the military ready to deal with social unrest the United States may try to foment in this time of economic crisis in Cuba, ahead of an invasion, they said.

Cuban television showed images of tanks firing their guns as they rolled through the countryside, artillery batteries blasting away, camouflaged troops digging trenches and shooting bazookas, attack helicopters and fighter jets buzzing through the sky and rescue teams tending wounded combatants.

It was not clear if the images came from Thursday's maneuvers or from file footage of previous activities, nor were the sites of the war games disclosed.

The maneuvers, which end on Saturday, are taking place at a time when relations between the United States and Cuba have warmed under Obama after five decades of hostility.

He has slightly eased the 47-year-old U.S. trade embargo against the communist-led island and initiated talks on migration and postal service, but based further progress on Cuba releasing political prisoners and improving rights.

The Cuban government under President Raul Castro has said it is open to better relations, but will make no unilateral concessions to the United States.

In a written response to questions from Cuban dissident blogger Yoani Sanchez last week, Obama said, "The United States has no intention of using military force in Cuba."

It will keep them busy I guess.

The chances of the US invading Cuba with our boy Obama at the helm are slim and none, but if it helps Castro keep his troops minds off the screwing they are getting with him, it probably serves a purpose.

I am more concerned with a modern day “Red Dawn” with our present, spineless Communist at the helm.

Obama replied, "We shall not be content with a defensive war. We shall not flag nor fail. We shall go on to the end. We shall fight on, we shall fight on beaches, landing grounds, in fields, in streets and on the hills. The combined armies of Cuban and Venezuela, will not, in a contest of a thousand years, drink, by force of arms from the Ohio river, Insha'Allah."

He’s been scarin’ the population with this for 50 + years !!!!

and every single Cuban wishes he could get on a raft and personally counter-attack by invading the USA himself. And then staying here. Forever.

Or until that Communist POS Dictator named Castro dies, and begins burning in you know where ............ and all his Communist buddies too, now that I think of it.

Read the many books about the people tortured, really tortured, horribly tortured, for 25 years and more in this POS’s jails ...... including the time period while The Congressional Black Caucus fools were shaking his hand and telling everyone what a great guy he is.

God made him ugly and wrinkled but mysteriously still hasn’t struck him with a lightening bolt. Yet.

Just wishin’ ..............

Captain Parker was a true hero at Lexington Green; calm, brave, a stand-up guy and Minuteman —— there are not enough left like him today.

But we have some. They do not.

re: Cuba began its biggest military maneuvers in five years

Aren’t they cute? Their military wouldn’t last one day in a full scale attack by our people. If it were up to me I would meet such silly announcements with a detailed description of their sad war machine together with how quickly our guys and gals would have them crying Uncle.

I might even send a few our fighters over to buzz them at supersonic speeds, just to rattle their cage and yank their chain. Who cares what the rest of the region, or the world, or the liberals for that matter, think about it.

Because I knew darn good and well that my Dad could enforce ANY discipline he chose he rarely had to do so. He made sure I didn’t get carried away and forget just how much follow through there was in his methods.
