The Royal Navy is regularly allowing Somalian pirates to go free because of the risk they would claim asylum if prosecuted in Europe.
Pirates terrorising ships in the Indian Ocean, looting and taking hostages, are often given medical checks and fed after being caught, before being sent of their way.
This is also sometimes because although they are carrying guns and other weapons, they have not been caught in the act of piracy and therefore have not technically committed a crime.
More than 340 suspected Somalian pirates have been captured by international naval forces in the last year and subsequently released on the advice of lawyers.
Pirates are currently holding a British couple, Rachel and Paul Chandler, from Tunbridge Wells, Kent, who said recently they feared they would be killed if the £4.2 million ransom is not paid.
Last week it emerged that two other Britons, James Grady and Peter French, were on a Saudi oil tanker that was captured by Somalis.
Julian Brazier, Conservative shipping spokesman, said: Its shameful that so many pirates are being returned to do it again.

I'm sure this will stop them. As an alternative, how about having them walk the plank, along with the lawyers.
You’d think by now they’d have figured this out. You need a hangin’ judge. It won’t take long for everyone to get the message.
There is a kind of moral corruption at the heart of this, where people are unable to pass judgement when judgement is required.
Execute them and feed them to the sharks!
Madness. The Brits of old would have keel-hauled them, or taken them back to the Tower for “remedial attitude adjustment”. The Iron Cage, the stocks, some drawing and quartering, cooking their innards over hot coals while they watched, or other such niceties.
A civilized world would solve this by having the pirates walk the plank.
Lawyers Must I say more
The world will soon sink into total anarchy if Western governments don’t rid themselves of leftists, liberals, PC’ers, and other assorted commies, and get back to the business of running their countries with real world, common sense.
There was a time when the British Navy would have quietly disposed of these “suspected” pirates at sea, and kept the sea lanes safer for all concerned.
Word would have spread that if you want to practice piracy, then you’d better hope that you’re never captured by a British warship. Harsh and certain penalties tend to deter crime.
“Execute them and feed them to the sharks!”
Wouldnt that be eco-terrorism; think about the poor sharks, feeding them human debris could upset whole oceanic eco-system. /sarc
If being caught with weapons on a boatload of “pirates” who are attempting to seize a ship is not “being caught in an act of piracy” I fail to understand what is.
The idiots are encouraging the pirates, no wonder it continues to get worse.
A bullet or a length of rope is a sure way to prevent asylum claims as well as repeat offenders.
There’s just too many weak stomachs these days to see anything remotely close to an end to somali piracy.
The UK has been soft on crime for the last half century.
“
Navy regularly releases Somali pirates, even when caught in the act

As Winston Churchill said of The Royal Navy:
“Rum, Sodomy, and The Lash”
Now it inclues Making Nice With Pirates.
I feel sorry for the average grunt of The Royal Navy subjected to
this Bravo Sierra.
Piracy off the coast of Somalia is quickly becoming a “low-risk/high-reward” enterprise. I need to get in on some of that action! Time to buy a parrot and an eye patch.
